So what problems did the other bikes have ?

Aside from a Sprint that broke the crank (another Triumph), a known problem for that year, nothing major ever, bad electrical contacts, safety switch replacements, stuff like that,
that's about it.

I am going to be off line for a week or so leaving this Morning Solo to see an old Mate in far Nth Queensland I served with nearly fifty years ago as usual the weather has turned sour but he is in remission from cancer so I better see him one more time.

The point is I am riding the GTR and leaving with full confidence to do the 1000Klm days I usually do but quicker and wind proofed , God willing I will be back with a report how the big Kawaka went
sorry to hijack this interesting thread but it is part of my PARANOIA therepy:laugh::laugh::laugh:

That's still around 5% of them and if your bike happens to be one of that 5% it's not nonsense!
And Thats on race bikes with double the HP and there are thousands of Rockets out there and they brought them to CARP to fix so nowhere near 5 percent The ROCKETS are holding up better than any of the other bikes that CARPENTER works on THATS the facts from CARPENTER RACING they work on more Rockets than anyone

Good on you mate !

Thought about passing this up but/ It may very well be a small percentage of Rockets with bad transmissions but that does not change the fact that a few folks on here are screwed either it be a assembly line issue or design issue. I for one would be more than upset if my transmission gave out before 100,000 miles. Given the fact that most people who own a Rocket have owned other motorcycles in the past and are not what you would call a novice leaves me to believe the problem with the transmissions is not operator error but a real problem with Truimph. I have been lucky so far 27,000 miles in a short time with no issues but if the transmission takes a @rap i for one will get rid of it. So I really can understand cusso ken viewpoint and the rest of the group and agree, No one should have to tolerate transmission problems of this nature on bikes with low milage.

Ime no expert on these rocket3,s but having owned mine since march this year and also having done a few jobs to the internal of the motor i can say looking at the design of certain internal parts i think a further time of development would of really helped before going into production and hoping the punters dont notice..Before i get flamed for being a rocket hater (which ime not) its just i find it alarming that no one is being held to account for basic internal engine part failures that could risk life or limb:rolleyes:

We are all a bit lost on the occasional failings in Triumph products. For they have such engineering paranoia and so many bikes are so over engineered that it shows. And indeed there are bikes of every model that might last forever....but some have downright foolish assembly mistakes. And as you note, there are some things where engineers must have glossed right over the design for some reason. They is no rhyme or reason. Either you want to take short cuts and build a barely adequate bike or you want to build a superior bike....you can't be both.
