Well, the day started out $hitty

Sorry to hear the news Fred, now a quick fix is buy my 05 and swap your bags and windshield over and hey presto you have a clone(a cleaner one). Do you still want the exhaust?
Another fix is upgrade to a newer bike, second hand Rockets are so cheap it is scary.

Hey Fred has yours ever had the update kit installed or is it original? I think I'd drop the sump pan for a look see at the torsional damper area. Plus its better to have it clean instead of dumping the scrap
metal into the engine when you roll it over. I feel for ya but I also know you can fix it or just stuff another engine in her.

Hi ya Scott ! I had the same thought. Best to get as much of the shrapnel out of it as possible before turning it over. And yes, mine had the update kit installed before I got it. The owner told me that and I had my local Triumph dealer run the vin # and they verified that it had. I've never had a problem with the gearbox proper. It has never once jumped out of gear. I've only missed a gear with it one time about 60,000 miles ago. I betting on a dislodged circlip. What about those alternative circlips that are like a flat spring ? Sometimes they are used for wrist pin clips on high powered engines.

Alternatively, if you fly me to your house I'll fix it for nothing more than room/board/beer and then I'll do you the added favour of riding around the US on it for a month or so just to make sure it's safe enough for you ride again...

I must admit the spiral snap-rings have been on my mind. When I get back home I should put it on the rocket to do list
I have seen a couple complete junk motors on fleebay - bad wrecks but my bet is the inside of even the cheap worst one are good. And heck you can sell Steel the crank shaft as a spare:D
I have seen a couple complete ones also this phone site sucks I'll have to figure out how to spot stuff so I can use my laptop :)

I'll buy the spare cases, and connecting rods too. Never know when I'll need another one.

I feel for you man. I remember you replacing your output shaft when I was doing mine. The only positive thing is that you know what you are up against pulling the motor. I wish I lived a little closer to help with the work. good luck

What a bummer. And summer is just getting started.

Spiral-Lox are what you are referring to for spiral type retainers. They are good. However, I suspect the grooves in the shaft are less than ideal and may be causing the problem. If the groove walls are tapered outward and / or the bottom corner radii is too big, this type retainer will work up and out also. Take a magnifying glass and look them over carefully. If the groove sides look scuffed up it is likely that is what is happening. The good news is that the grooves can be re-cut on the thrust side. A machinist can use a ceramic grooving insert and face that surface even if the shaft is 60RC. Then use machine bushings as needed to re-set end play of the gear set as needed. I know you have the skills needed..

Good luck with your old girl. She just needs a little fine fiddling, err I mean fine tuning. :)))

Yep, still want the pipes. The Phoenix shall rise again ! Hey, maybe you could just throw the bike in with the exhaust deal ! I promise to keep it clean. :D

Man that really, really, really, SUCKS!

I hope you get it all straightened out and the bike "will be better than it ever was been":D

I'm been kicking the idea around in my head about getting a Indian.

What type of Indian I don't have a clue.
