Well, the day started out $hitty

Man does that suck! Sorry brother.

This is exactly why I'm going to have my tranny gears undercut before I have issues again, should prevent the worst of problems from ever arising again.

I've seen quotes ranging from $400 to $550 to have it done, might be worth looking into. Aside from that there's not much to improve on the stock design unfortunately.

**** happens twice to some, avoid casinos ;):D

Seriously sad to hear RS  :(

No sign of trouble on my 2010 R3R yet with nearly 70K km - touch wood! With any luck previous owners had issues and fixed or I got lucky.

Any chance is 'just' the rear bearing?

My guess is a snap ring unseated itself. What makes me think that is even in neutral, the engine will still try to move the bike. Pretty sure some gear teeth will be found in the sump :(. This bikes kinda like being in a bad relationship. She treats me bad, but I stay with the ole' whore.

Hey Fred has yours ever had the update kit installed or is it original? I think I'd drop the sump pan for a look see at the torsional damper area. Plus its better to have it clean instead of dumping the scrap metal into the engine when you roll it over. I feel for ya but I also know you can fix it or just stuff another engine in her.
