Well, the day started out $hitty

Shafts were good for run-out. The guy from Robinson's told me they wash the old bearings out with solvent then put a couple drops of oil on them. If they spin easy with no vibration they re-use them. I did that. One of mine was iffy so it got replaced. He seemed to think a taxi-tested used bearing was less of a crap shoot than a new one.
I also replaced 2nd, third and fourth gears. Fourth will be one of Robinson's billet 4th gears.
Let me know what he charges for the works Fred I will do a preemptive strike and send him a transmission :) hopefully will not need it. but if so well its just wrenching as you know :)

I would like to see the budget for this operation . . . or the worksheet for Robinsons. How did you find them ? Where are they ?

If someone else is looking at a make or break decision as you have, it would be useful to have an idea what is involved in getting the gears undercut, purchasing a billet 4th gear, heavy duty snap rings, etc.

Thank you so much for keeping us posted.

Do you have an ETA for being back on the road ? Will we see you soon ?

It took less than a week to get all the parts I needed from Triumph. Robinson Industries is in New York. Neville Lush suggested them earlier in this thread. Google them. They do all things for bike transmissions. So far I have about $950.00 in parts. I did however save a couple hundred dollars by using parts in the update kit I bought when my output shaft failed. I'm buying the billet fourth gear from Robinsons. They make them. They are $259.00. He ballparked the undercutting and cutting the shaft grooves at around $250.00. I'm having them check my shift forks as well, so it will be more. I didn't ask about about turnaround time. I got the Valk to ride so I'm in no hurry.

I've been a bit lax on the updates with RAA and all. I got my gears back from Robinson's about a week before RAA. Didn't want to rush the job so concentrated on going through the old Valk to make sure she was trip worthy. Here are the gears/shafts after Robinson's. The first two show the back-cut.

Here is the Robinson made billet 4th gear.

Heavy duty input shaft clip, set in deepened and widened groove.

Heavy duty output shaft clip in widened and slightly deepened groove. These clips almost appear surface ground as they have very square corners on both sides.

These clips provide a lot more tension. I could spin the installed factory clips with my fingers. These don't turn.

Found very little swarf in the oil pickup screens. Most of the gear teeth just fell to the bottom of the transmission housing. Will run it a hundred miles or so and pull pan again and make sure it's clean. Engine is back together now. Should be able to get it back in the bike and rideable this weekend.

Nice. Lovely seeing your backcut and billet, spoke with Carpenter today and he's doing the same to my much box, hopefully they hold together!

Good to hear your nearly back on the road!

I may be wrong but have heard that Robinson's does Carpenter's gear work. I figured for the very reasonable cost, it was worth doing everything I could to give it a fighting chance at survival !

So here we are at noon today......

This is the tricky part.

Here she is about 8:00 p.m. Just back from her maiden voyage. Preliminary results seem very positive. The trans shifts better than it ever has. Feels very positive when it clicks into the next gear. Runs like poop with no exhaust, but I did hit the gears pretty hard and ran it up to 90 to check for any popping out issues. Everything seems to be back to normal. Gonna run it a hundred miles or so and pull the pan again and check for skita. Lot of f'ing work but I'm a pretty happy camper at the moment. :)
