if you think triumph is bad with electronics you should see what british airplanes have for electronics!!

I did a USN Detachment to RAF Kinloss (Scotland) back in the 80's and was offered a ride on a Nimrod for a mission (I was a P3 flyer). I thought about the 60's Triumph and the 75 Norton Commando I had, and figured if the Nimrod was leaking oil I would be OK. But you can bet I knew exactly where my parachute was! I didn't even think about the electronics, which probably should have been my biggest worry!

I bought an EB relay kit for my 2008 touring. However, last week, while having a new set of Avon's mounted on the 08, I sat on and fell for a brand new 2011 roadster that I took home instead. Therefore I have the kit in the box and I'm not sure if I need one for the roadster. One problem that I instantly see is that this kit is not an exact fit for my roadster due the the dual headlights. Two questions: Does the 11 roadster need the EB relay kit? and can I modifiy my kit to fit the roadster if it needs one? THANKS!

I have a 2010 Roadster and it got the Ignition Switch recall fix from Triumph shortly after I got it. I'm not sure, but I believe it was stock on the 2011's and later.

I finally ordered one for my 06 Classic which still has the original ignition in her. I need to order the PC8 fuse block with 50 amp pigtail.

if you wonder where to mount it I suggest left side behind the centre cover you can make a small template screw it to the mount your wires will be short as you are close to the battery . I posted a pic of it might help you decide.

Dead 2009 rocket

Hello all,

Been a while since I've been here...Took the 2009 R3 with only 8700 miles on it for a last hurrah last Sunday. Rode about 1/2 hour and then parked and enjoyed a few hours of dining and people watching/fellow biker chats. Went to start bike and it started, but went dead when I kicked the Kick stand up. Tried and tried to no avail to start the bike. New battery and connections were fine, but no instrument cluster lights, headlights, fuel pump sound etc....DEAD except for horn and signals. Add that no one could tow it and the one guy who said he could tow it showed up without a flatbed, then was afraid to transport the bike because he couldnt secure it because their really isnt a frame on the rear to secure...blah blah....anyway, I left it parked downtown Alexandria overnight and went to UHAUL in the AM and rented a bike trailer and hauled it back to my house where it currently sits.....checked fuses..couldnt really check relays..but assume it sounds like the ignition relay . Should I follow the lead here or am I missing anything?? Scary situation if I was riding...my throttle cable snapped off the Aftermarket Kuryakin grips I put on 2 years ago while riding last year...Thank god I was on a empty back road!!!!

Trace the ignition wires to the connector under the tank. It's near the front. Give that a bit of wiggle with the key turned on. If you get any life, albeit intermittent, I'd say it's one of the pins in that connector that will be a bit burnt. If you're lucky that will be the problem as it's a pretty easy fix. Isolate the wires on each side of the problem pin and bridge it, or as many of the wires as you think are suspect. I had to do that to mine - soldered a bit of wire (with connector in the middle so it can be pulled apart if need be) straddling the connector block. Someone in this thread (Big Doug???) did it with all the wires. I just did one.

One more down

2005 Rocket III with 42k miles. Never a problem from the switch. Made and installed my own relays and wiring for headlights two years ago. ( Did not want to wait for the EB kit ) Also had all the wire and relays to do it. Went out Sunday and and a great day of riding the first half. Then after lunch no power to the gages?? Turn key on and off and it was fine. Started to die while riding a least seven times. Stopped and fueled and pushed the wiring up to the switch the best I could and made it home. Did cut off a few times on the highway but would come right back. Have not removed the switch yet. Will try and repair first and go from there. Will report back with updates.

What ever happen with the reports to the government on this?? Are they doing anything??

I just bought the EB relay kit from a fellow R3 owner on this site and will install it soon.

Since my last post I have been stranded 2 times (documented elsewhere on this site).

I have a nice collection of my R3T on the back of trailers, tow trucks and flatbeds!

My bike is now officially out of warranty (Triumph extended it a year after my initial problems), so I'm hoping no more issues arise.
