Sturgis???

Here you go.. I rode to Sturgis in 2002 as part of my 'Bachelor party'.. then came home and got married on Aug 17th.. :) I rode up from Shreveport, LA with my best man, James.. and we had a great time. My wife and I then rode my bike up to Hot Springs, AR for a week for our honeymoon. She used one saddle bag, and I used the other. It was such a good time. We (James, myself and another friend, Mike) rode back up to Sturgis in 2006, and plan to ride up again next year in 2013..

I haven't been married as long as you, but coming up on 10 years next month and still going strong.. :) People always ask if we've been together long.. lol

Oh.. and if you're going, you have to ride.. Too many pusses trailer up to Nebraska, stay in a hotel.. and ride 2 hours to Sturgis and claim they rode there. There is so much more to the ride there and back, that is the main part of the experience.

Call me a ***** if you want.. I trailer from Maine out and unload at the campground.. Then log a bunch of miles out there.. Then again I go for two weeks.. I also did get into a accident just over two years ago that has left my knee screwed. 1800+ miles just to get to SD from Maine.

Don't let anyone call you a *****
Crashing a bike and riding again takes courage
I crashed my first rocket four years ago and am lucky to be able to ride
Neck still pops and cracks and sounds like gravel when I turn my head
I trailer and if people dont like it screw em
I thank god everyday that I still can ride
And walk and talk and all the rest
Wheelchairs suck been there done that
Don't and won't do it again

My knee to this day still clicks and pops... painful even two years later. I will never in my life forget one second of that accident....wouldn't wish a bike accident on my worse enemy ...

I wasn't trying to be offensive to those who are injured.. A screwed up knee would sure make it difficult.. But for those who can ride, you're missing the best part of the adventure. There are just as many memories from those rides across the country as there are from the weeks at the destination. The crop duster that flew down, waved at us and flew with us for a good while in Kansas when riding down Hwy 81 is one of my favorites.. Taking a picture of a curve on Hwy 83 on the way up.. because I hadn't seen one in hours.. lol The view of no fences, not even power lines anywhere in sight..

I posted a while back about a guy we passed on my last trip up who was riding a Kawasaki ZX6R.. He had a stuffed duffle bag hanging off the bike and the wind was blowing the little bike around. We kind of snickered about that guy at our next stop.. But.. later on, we stopped for gas, and here came that save ZX6R.. He pulled in behind us, took 2-3 times to get his leg swung over.. and pulled his helmet off to say Hi.. We had some great conversation with him.. This guy was in his mid-70's!! He was riding the ZX6 because it was the only bike he had available to ride to Sturgis.. There was as storm coming up, and we were going to try and ride around it some.. The guy said where he was staying was that direction, so he was going to ride through the storm to get there.. lol I can only hope I have the same drive he did.. and I sure wished we were camping close by, because he was a fun guy and I'm sure he had some stories!.. :)

TxRIIIRider No worries man I was just giving ya crap... I get it all the time about trailering out. I just don't care. I drive solo over 36 hours to get there from Maine, nothing more than the radio and the road. Last year I did the drive in two days! I have seen so much of this country making this trip. It amazes me the amount of money and time people spend going to other countries when they haven't even seen what this country has to offer. Get away from the East coast and things just are totally different. Can't wait to fire up the big diesel and start the haul west. One of these years it will be firing up the R3 and heading west.. Just got to get my knee in shape for it. I get stiff to quick right now to pull it off.

in 2002 I road out with a tent and sleeping bag a drizzling rain for most of the 1361 miles to Sturgis through the soybeans and corn almost forgot sun flowers road all over the place for a week at Sturgis left and went to custard Wyoming and then to Yellowstone into Montana and make the big loop through Salt Lake City and Denver on the way back home sometimes the guys with the trailer would pull beside you and it sure made it look like the way to go
