Sturgis???

Ever done the Snowy ride Richard? What's it like? Too many bikes?

If your talking Canberra, Cooma, Tumut, the on to the Hume Highway have done it both directions.

One of the best rides I've done.

When the weathers at its best the weekends are full of bikes all shapes and sizes.

No, I meant this one...snowyride.org.au

Heaps of bikes go on it apparently, I've never done it but it goes on the roads you're talking about Marty - I love it up there. Richard's back yard almost.

No I haven't mate, but I have heard it's a bit of a chore because of the number of bikes. Also May in the Snowys is not the most fun place to be. Having said that I have been up to Jindabyne quite a few times and it's a great ride there (except for the Canberra Cooma bit) and all around the area.

If you're considering doing the Snowy Ride let me know but I have to say the $500 rego fee is a bit of a turn off.

If I was coming from the coast I'd probably jump at the chance to do Brown Mountain. One of my favourite rides is Canberra, Batemans Bay, Bermagui, Cooma, and I'd probably prefer just to do that. 500km with Bermagui in the middle. Now we have a bit of a south coast contingent we should look at organising something like that.

did the snowy ride once and never again, Had Ann on the back coming around a blind left hand bend, half way round a d##khead on a ****** rocket came around coming the other way but 2 feet on my side of the road.... lets just say thank Gawd for my quick reflexes.. cranked it over almost rubbing my helmet on the rock wall to my left only missed me by a few inches we had already seen a couple of wrecked bikes on the side of the road. So I vowed I would not do it again the next year one of my mates got taken out in a similar situation lost two fingers and multiple fractures to his right leg. So I say unless they make the Loop in to a oneway road for the event I wont go again Thanks:rolleyes:

OK, enough of that good idea-doesn't sound like the Snowy Ride's for me. Especially with the $500 tag! I ride Bermagui/Cooma/Canberra frequently for work, always feel a bit lucky to have these quality roads around here. Bombala/Dalgety/Jindabyne is another favorite. If you want a south coast ride Richard count me in, we're on the road between Bermagui and Tathra, motorcycle heaven (apart from the 'Roos). Anyway, after Hervey Bay and back you blokes are only going to want to putter down to the local espresso bar until your arses recover!

 I've been assured it's not that type of gathering.........;)

Most are trailered and most are a joke. Seems most of them park their trailer with in 75 miles and then ride in. I only live 140 miles away and I did ride mine in for a day. It's kinda scary sharing the road with that many amateaur riders.

Lots of beautiful places in that area to ride but I prefer doing so either before or after "Sturgis". Much safer.

I actually saw one guy unloading his bike on the freeway exit at Sturgis !

Been there done that got the T-shirt. Lets see 11 miles of 2 cycles in each lane bumper to bumper or fender to fender if you prefer. Creeping at .5 miles per hour from Deadwood to Sturgis... No fun. Best part was the custom rides and the beer. Ended up getting hit by a hail storm on the way back... looked like I stuck my head in a wasp nest. Anyway I think I'll pass. Too many idiots/ posers too...
