New Performance tire for Rocket 2.5 from Metzeler

As a heads up, I also own an Indian Challenger and the Cruisetecs come standard on them. I and many other owners have experienced cupping of the tire at well under 10,000 miles. Mine started cupping at 4,000 miles. Some say that the recommended air pressure is too low and increasing it helps eliminate the issue, but most just switch brands and avoid Metzeler like the plague.

So far, so good with my Cruisetecs and I really like them. Funny, but the Avons have always cupped on my bikes starting with my '98 Thunderbird Sport and continuing with those that came stock on my 2020 3R.

@FemmeFatale - wondering, do you know, if you are the only woman in our group at the moment riding a Rocket? We're a crass bunch (generally), but either you are as well, or just able to look past it ;-). It seems most women nowadays are choosing Harleys for some God forsaken unknown reason (I guess just mirroring the general blind sheep-following-blind-sheep population). In any event, nice to have you here.....

Glad to hear that they're holding up. Not sure if I'm the only one, but I usually am in forums like this lol. I only pop in when I feel like I can help or need it myself so the crassness goes unnoticed. As for Harley, I just don't get it. The community or the bikes 😂

I would hate to paint tires with generalities that would apply to all bikes, sizes and usage. There are just too many variables at play. Sometimes you just have a try a set and see how they work out for you. That isn't to say that certain tires won't have characteristics that may be enhanced or degraded by your bike. Obviously there are things like putting something like Michelin Power Cup 2's on a road bike and expecting them to last. I got 1200 miles out of my last set on my KTM.

There are so many things that can cause issues and maybe something from the factory wasn't setup correctly and it caused issues but the tire was blamed. On the user side, who knows if people are using the correct tire pressure, how the suspension is setup, what sort of loading, etc.?

I personally have had good luck with the Cruisetecs on another bike, and when the Avon is toast, I'll probably go with them. I've ridden the Avons about 1100 miles so far and can't say I am impressed with them. I am definitely willing to try something else when they are gone in about 2500 miles. Metzeler will be one of the companies I look at first for a replacement.

Well, I got about 4.5k miles out of them, but can't find a rear in stock- subject of another thread. I just mounted old faithful Exedra Max on the rear, which is also cheaper. On the front I mounted the G701F Exedra 150/80HR-17, which I have not previously tried. Just ran some of the slick off them, but too early to try pushing them. I know I like the Max on the rear. I'll post later how the one on the front is performing.

Btw, the Cruistec on the front started cupping.

Note: I usually get about 4k out of a tire, so a few extra hundred miles on these but I'm also not riding quite as hard as I did before I went down in November.
