YES its amazing how greedy and cheap some of these creepy dealers are its sickening
It's nothing new and will only go on forever.

I have actually seen a "mechanic" clean the top end of an engine with Pledge then casually drop it into an engine. He was ( I kid you not) polishing the head. You'll understand why I never let them near my bikes.

While I don't doubt there are greedy people out there, most businesses don't survive the sour feeling left in customers' mouths by that.

The real issue for those of us who love motorcycles, is that we are a minority in road users. We are one rung above cyclists (another of my interests), but only just.

And like the American tolerance for bad food in deference to cost, the economics of hands-on repair work against motorcycles in this country. BMWs survive thanks to that clientele having higher than average disposable income and willing to pay higher maintenance costs - which include higher labor rates for mechanics.

For the rest of us, we survive in the margins of American society, where young men (generally) drawn to tinker and willing to work for less - thanks to residing in the outskirts, will put up with working on motorcycles. And from whom do they learn ? The folks who have stuck around a long time are becoming few and far between, leaving young folks to learn by their mistakes -- where we often find ourselves here.

Motorcycles work much better in other parts of the world, where labor is still cheap.

For us, it is what it is, and with all the challenges, they are still amazing.

He only had 10 made, hopefully he still has one. Mine started with a skip in 2nd gear.
Yeah, I told Carpenter, anything even remotely possible to not be 100%, replace it, hate to do it twice, if I remember, billet 4th gear was only about $150, but don't quote me. He only had 10 made, hopefully he still has one. Mine started with a skip in 2nd gear.

Thanks Trips, maybe I should consider that...do you have a contact name and number to hand? :)

Everything on the output and input side, shaft gears, spacers etc.
All shift forks
Shift Drum
Pretty much everything top to bottom in the trans was replaced.
Stator, because its already open so why not?

Good advice, but I very much doubt that Triumph will agree to EVERYTHING being replaced, so maybe I'll have to pick up the slack and price the rest of it? Sounds expensive, maybe even too expensive...:(

Oh and I've seen guys break 4th on early bikes heck frocket did it twice. It's not really happened enough to call it a flaw. His real problem was when he hit a roo :)
I did not know he had done two?? One for sure, but freely admits the wheelstands and rolling burnouts for part of the 70000kms may have contributed to the failure. He killed the roo on contact with the substantial person and bike. Big sucker,.. the roo.
