GEARFOX BUCKED!

The latest development, is that Triumph UK have agreed to replace everything on the Input and Output Shafts, but not the Shafts themselves.
The Dealership considers that the three Gear Selectors and Shaft are servicable, but from the advice of Captains replying to various Posts, I have decided to replace them myself (£250)

Is there any forthcoming advice re: Shimming? There are two listed, but I read somewhere in the depths of these Posts, that there is a 'Shim Kit', which the Dealership can't find...? Are the tolerances available?

Any help, or experience based suggestions, would be gratefully received

I do not think there is a shim kit for the transmission, just the shims which allow for sloppy yet production oriented assembly. After all it's probably outsourced anyway. It sure would be nice to know what clearance is optimum. One would probably need shims made which is what I would turn out on a lathe . Again only if you could find the optimal clearance dimension. Same with the shafts so you could double check groove depths for the snap rings. Oops cir-clips

Not sure what the warranty will be, on the work carried out...yet to establish that.
I had a bike for about a week, but had to give it back. Test Rode a 'Bobber', now bikeless

i complaind to triumph hq,and got another loan bike,its down to the manager of the franchised dealer ship ??

regarding the replacement parts fitted when my explorer went bang i think it was 12 months on the parts supplied by triumph ?

I don't think you'd bother unless you already a transmission issue.

Something to be wary of when undercutting is the gear construction...Some gears are casehardened so the grinding process actually exposes the softer metal. Pretty sure this doesn't apply to the R3 tranny but one never knows with triumph...

IF you have a problem then while you have it apart then undercut the gears then your good to go

Once again, I AGREE. If you have the engine apart/box out to fix a knackered part do it. Spreading the love ART, .

YES as you know NEV it really works well and makes for a slick shifting trans.

there is no shim kit so far we havnt shimed any undercutting the gears solves the the shift problems all the race bikes hold up great even with 500 HP SO I think most the problems are caused by miss shifts

Thanks tails. Although I quite enjoyed the Bobber, nothing compares to the TRXR

I don't have the opportunity to send those dogs to Carpenters and I don't know of anyone good enough in the UK, plus when I mentioned 'undercutting' to Bob Carpenter, he said it wouldn't be necessary on a Rocket X.
