Taking my time changing gears. Using brakes, more than gears to slow down and using 5th more, to take the load off 4th...

I reckon like all gear boxes the selected gear should match the load/ speed selecting a higher gear and making the engine labour does more harm than "singing" for want of a better word in a lower gear ,this applies whether you are riding a moped are hauling a 60 Tonne load, I used the 5th gear on my Rocket as a quasi over drive ,but my gearbox failed so maybe no matter what you do its all up to luck with the gearboxes, some people say to be heavy with the change lever on the rockets maybe that works ,I have always tried to make smooth changes even on a Eaton Fuller 18 speed Roadranger gear Box and gentle with the clutch Brake because as an owner driver you break you pay and you fix ,:cautious::cautious:

us brits just cannot build gearbox,s like the japs.:whitstling:
Shame we just can't transplant a little grey fergie gearbox into our rockets , would last forever !
Time and time again , it's them little bitty circlips that cause the problem . Is it because they are stretched during assembly ? Or is it simply because they are bought in from china and are not fit for purpose ?

I would love to sit down and measure the new shafts along with the older model's to see what if anything is different. I just dont rememember early bikes developing cir-clip problems. Even ones like mine that had the update kit installed. If I had the time I would like to see if there is any particular year that is developing more transmission/cir-clip problems. And why no touring problems?

ACTUALLY the gearbox was designed by the same engineers and they use a lot of parts made in JAPAN as they are considered the highest quality a

SEEMS the circlip can be forced out of its groove by missed shifts SO beating up your big cruiser by missing gears and burning up rear tires in 2 to 3 thosand miles is an indication of abnormal or rough riding habits SO the fact that the stock gearbox is used in the streamliner with 500 HP engines shows how strong the drive train is so we are looking into the circlip issue to elininate the problem

Mine was a Touring, had the circlip issue. And the only bike I ever had a tranny problem with.

Ya but since yours was built before it blew, a older touring, and the only touring I know that broke I can not rate it in with all the roadsters we've seen just in the last couple years yet. Your kind of special :)
