SO it comes down to a very fine adjustment of the clutch cable to take up the clearance but leave a small amount of free play so you dont burn up the lifter parts
 
I have read over most of this thread and I guess I will add my two cents. I have only had my new 2015 R3T since October with a little less than 1,000 miles on it. I will say, I believe this bike is definitely smoother than my 2013 R3T was so there is a difference between the two bikes. My 2013 did have close to 14,000 miles on it so that could be some of the difference. It also had a very gritty feeling to it when decelerating from highway speeds and backing off the throttle. It was a little irritating, but I could never put my finger on it. Starting around 70 I could feel more vibration in the handlebars which increased with further speed. Was it awful? No, but I have not noticed that same gritty feeling during deceleration and the same vibration at higher speeds in the newer bike is not there.

As for the clutch, it rattled like a bag of marble in neutral and the clutch not pulled in. Most have reported this is common. The new one, not so much. Again, It is probably not as noticeable do to the lower mileage. Everyone talks about free play in their clutch. I have set my clutch free play to the specifications in the manual which is fine cruising around town. What I have noticed that no one else has mentioned is my free play disappears when traveling at higher speeds. The clutch lever rests tight against its stop at as I increase in speed. Everyone talks about removing free play going down the highway where I have no free play at all. This is true even if I set the clutch with a little extra free play. This was the case with both of my bikes and has been a constant no matter how the free play is set. There is a fine line with the free play when it comes to not being able to disengage the clutch fully at idle and being able to get the bike into neutral when stopped. (clutch drag) This is something I don't normally do as I get into neutral before coming to a full stop. Just my observations.

Is it number 1 the Lifter piece in the picture that is causing the vibration and has been modified in the later models?
 
Well, number 1 IS the lifter piece, however, I don't believe it to be the cause of vibration, it's too small. It does sometimes make a rattle type of noise when there is proper free play in the clutch cable. My particular vibration came on one day while riding, like you flipped a switch. Made me pull off the road and do a walk around to see WTF! Had the dealer pick it up, but they did not find anything, and only took it up to 60 mph test run. My vibration came on like a rubber mounted engine, that suddenly lost one of it's rubber mounts. It's still there, I just accept it. "It's not as smooth as it was new" is all I can say. Someday when the offending part falls off, or out, I'll know what it was. Ha! Until then, I run the cheet out of my Rocket, and luv it!
 
i am glad some one other than me is saying the lifter is not the problem. i think that it is to small and to close to center to cause the vibration. it seems to me when u take out the free play the lifter pushes the drum straight and the vibration goes away.
i would love for some one to prove me wrong all they have to do is remove lifter and try. of coarse on mine i can tell the difference just idling and touching the clutch.

COULD be your tune or throttle bodies need to be synchronized

Have you driven at 75 mph and pulled the clutch lever in just enough to take up most of the free play and the vibration ceases the lifter piece is solid steel and easily heavy enough to cause the vibration and I thought of making one from titainium and have it hard coated or another design to keep the lifter on center
