Engine misses intermittently

I have considered one coil may not be functioning, i need to check them again to make sure, it would explain the extra vibration and suddenly dieing on occasion, coil contacts were all cleaned, it still runs and has good pickup, but you can feel something is not quite right

if i was checking for a coil that i thaught was not firing.
i would while running pull the outside terminal (neg ecu grounding) and you should notice a big difference because it will stop that coil from firing.

good idea, that would save time, thats why i come here, learn something new everyday

If anyone could tell me if other coil packs would work that would be great thought in case i need to order some

There's threads on this here, I want to say Yamaha R1 coils from memory, but there's modifications necessary. Trying to remember who's done it, thinking @Claviger , and maybe @Joesmoe

I inadvertently had it disconnected from the system so it wasn't powered on, and it was still happening, was worse before i remapped the main ECU and ran it, that helped, but it was still missing, before i mapped decel sounded like Rice Krispies on steriods

Check clean and recrimp the spade and connector on each low voltage lead to each coil if they are loose they vibrate loose contact and sporadically misfire. Number on coil is the hardest to get to. Also on a few occasions the female spade was so loose it vibrated off the coil.

Just a little squeeze with a pair of pliers and you will feel how much tighter they are when you reattach the connectors.
Number 2, and 3 coils are the easiest start there first before you dig for number 1.

There was some kind of cross brace for something that is in the way of number 1 coil, it seemed superfluous, so I left it off.

If you think it might be only 1 coil acting up, beg, borrow or steal a replacement then swap it out with each coil, taking the bike out for a test ride after each swap to see if you've found the defective one. This way, if there is a bad coil you save replacing the lot, not knowing which of the 3 was defective. I'm cheap when it comes to replacing parts in order to troubleshoot a problem.
