Engine sputtering and backfiring

Wow, sorry to hear about your truck...glad you're ok! Sounds like it's not uncommon for a TPS to go bad? Are they expensive and/or tough to replace?
No they are not hard and can be screwed up easy if you torque them down to much. They get in a bind which wears the rheostat. The your voltage can jump around confusing the ecu as to where it is on the map.

Now since @scot in exile is watching this thread I I would like him to just see if he can copy the map in the ecu on his bike. If he can then it is not a carpenter installed map. or it is before tune boy got ECU specific. Either way if it is the custom map tune ecu will tell you it can not read the map. If it is not your in business or at least know what you have in it for a map. Plus I would like to know how the firmware update went and did it make any difference as to how the bike runs. I am only asking because I know a few early PCV's had some bugs in them.
Sorry to hijack the thread.

For my money I would take the bike to a decent Dyno tuner as they will find the problem for both @grampi and @scot in exile

The guy I would like to use is moving shop and everything is torn down, I searched for tripps in Alabaster alabama but seemingly he is no longer in business, finding a good tuner in the deep south is like watching a kangaroo make love to a koala bear

The service tech just called me and said they found no problems with the bike. I now have to assume the tune is creating the issue.

Two questions for you guys; is the ECM and ECU the same thing? If so, why the two different acronyms? Secondly, does the ECU (or ECM) record engine anomalies like a car's computer does? I know a car's computer records engine problems and stores them because I've seen my mechanic read those issues with their diagnostics machine. If this info is recorded and stored in the ECU, wouldn't it register every time the engine misfires, and could we then read that to determine what is causing the problem?

Ecm- electronic control module.
Ecu- electronic control unit.
They are the same.
Since the hardware like coil ,wiring etc is intact. Its the tune now!!
Have u rode the bike after the dealership worked on it??

No, I won't be able to pick it up until next Friday...but since they didn't replace anything, I expect it to run the same....
