Battery Maintainer and Battery Disconnect Issues?

I’ve always (in the past 20 years anyway) used a smart tender, even when I was commuting every day. Probably because I believe the claim that they condition the battery.

Yeah, it's one of those things that me me feel like I'm being neglectful if I don't connect it even though it probably doesn't need it. It's an old habit.

Yeah, it could be psychological. I feel good when I’m pampering my battery. It could be that these things don’t do more than charge the battery unless the battery is actually deteriorating. However, because they’re smart, they don’t overcharge the battery. In the 70’s, I never used a charger. Of course, the bikes didn’t have starters.

I read that the Triumph charger is the Optimate 3+. It should connect directly to the battery no problem.
I bought my Optimate 3+ in 2014 for my 14 Rocket. I have used it anytime my 14 or 2020 sits for more than 2 days. Lately it's been getting a workout due to rain. Had it close to 10 years and it's still working well. If this one goes I for sure will get another.

I ride in 15F on ice roads with spiked tires wearing nothing but flip-flops and a banana hammock!
I’ve ridden from Christchurch, NZ to McMurdo Base, Antarctica, then to the South Pole and back, with a trailer packed with Hostess Twinkies. There.
