If you run AGMs then why are you so persistent about the charge state of flooded?
I never mentioned flooded batteries, you did! I’m done with this thread. I get on this forum to enjoy the discussion and offer my experience and not be put down for trying to help others. I’ve been riding and wrenching bikes for over 50 years quite successfully and I know what battery voltage is.

BUT you do... 12.6 nonsense about AGMs. just become informed and stop spreading bad information that you have been educated many times about. Its like you refuse to read anything that does not fit the narrative or hill you want to defend. I posted a great link for you to read. Happy riding. BTW i was checking out that maintainer you listed. fakespot and amazon reviews are not that great, with very low star rating. With the plethora of experience i have with BAD stuff ive wasted $ on, i would stay away from this, especially when your battery costs almost $200 and this tender costs over $100. when a NOCO is $50 and will never hurt your investment or let you done like that one will.
Don't let me discourage you, im just trying to help. we all do things differently but what matters is your freedom to ride and do what you want, i will never tread on that!

I corrected you nicely, then again asking you to stop spreading bad information politely. You ignored wisdom and actually said I'm not credible. I never called you a name or put you down in any way. I'm here to help and I'm sorry you were offended.
Well I decided to go out and put my $ where mouth is.
These are all AGM batteries
I would love for you to show me your AGMs that have 12.6 on them. Otherwise admit your wrong.
All my other batteries I use are flooded and I drain them out for cold storage back on 2018 when I had my son and I had to stop fishing the way I used to. If you want I can fill some of them up but it's not necessary and I've proved my point here.
Here is the battery on my rocket that is basically 5 months old and always is on a maintainer when parked. This is peek voltage

Now here is the battery that I have for my nighthawk, it's 4 years old and is a POS. It never holds a charge well if left out so I have it for a core but it still works as a back up .. just can't handle being sat for a few months on its own. And is currently 100%of the time on a maintainer this is peek voltage

Now on to a fair point here is the 4 month old battery on my ex500 ninja that has never once yet seen a tender of any kind. I just ran it for 20 minutes last night and this is the voltage 12 hours later. This is resting voltage
PXL_20241020_201113064.MP.jpg
Here is my current project 1972 Skylark
This is a new battery, date when purchased 5 weeks ago is 3/24. From batteries plus the voltage shipped was 12.60. this has never seen a maintainer yet and I just drove the car 10 minutes to my shop and let the lights stay on for 2 minutes and took this picture.

Now this next one is a 2014 deep cycle I have had on a maintainer and never once went over 50% use on trolling motors on my bass fishing boat. For this picture I ran it for 5 minutes non stop on my permancool fan setup that eats 20 amps so this is resting voltage on a deep cycle AGM. Before running the fans it was at 12.82 volts. It's not in the best health but still does a fine job. This last spring I load tested it at 93 amp hour capacity. Good for a 10 year old battery that was well kept and used 20 times a year so about 190 ish give or take 50% cycles.

There has been quite a bit of discussion here. ..It is generally accepted that 13 volt is considered a full charge on an AGM battery. Realistically 12.8 volt is generally what you will see. As far as I'm concerned 12.6 and up is acceptable for starting my GT.
As for batteries, I only buy Yuasa batteries with an acid pack. I never would buy a battery off the shelf, as you never know how long they have be setting. I add the acid pack to my new AGM battery and let it sit for four hours. I then charge the battery before installing. I replace my battery every 2 or 3 years tops and use a draw down test to determine their general starting state throughout the riding months.
I keep my batteries on a Triumph Optimate charger, especially if my bike will be sitting for a few days. I have never had an issue because I am proactive replacing and maintaining my batteries. It just works for me.
I think this is the battery...

Quality worth buying batteries ALL have the date either stamped on them or a sticker... however reliable that is... on them. Yuasa batteries are a 1 year warranty. meanwhile going to a place like batteries plus, guaranteed no issues or a replacement when purchasing, plus 3 year replacement warranty. Duracel and some other brands like optima, ect... Same with costco... interstate... ect... both and the like battery store have so much turn over that there is no chance of getting a battery that is older than a few months. from manufacturing. As far is that Triumph Optima charger goes... If i was gifted one i would trow it in the trash. LOTS OF BAD REVIEWS. its a budget charger made in Belgium by TecMate, and that company has a TON of problems with the various trash they make. They get a 2 on GLASSDOOR for work but over all i would say they are a bit better than other chargers but they still are a YOUNG company being started in 1994. NOCO is 80 years older than they are and that COUNTS for quality and experience.
No AGM battery at full charge is a healthy battery at 12.6, my battery i have for the nighthawk will NOT even start it more than a few cranks worth of life if its under 12.7, same goes for the one in my ninja.... the one that i replaced. it was 10 years old LOL and it was 12.71 volts when it was replaced when it no longer held enough of a charge to start the ninja but it would run if i pushed it into 1st gear!
Changing a battery regardless of health every few years is DUMB. Sorry! no disrespect.

In the UK and Europe I'd stick with an Optimate charger, which I think is German-made. I had an Oxford Oximiser (maybe the UK equivalent of a Tecmate) and that was garbage. Chinese made by the look of it. It worked OK until the block connectors fell apart, the two terminals touched each other and the charger fried itself. The clue is in the price. The difference in physical build quality between the Optimate and the Oximiser is night and day.

I am looking into whether the Rocket battery is the most powerful lead-acid available. I've had this problem with my Ducati. Because it's got a tuned engine with higher compression and more valve overlap than stock the OE grade battery isn't up to the job - which is why it now has a knackered starter sprag.
There are plenty of higher power batteries available from big sports tourers etc, but they're physically larger and won't fit into the battery tray without adapting it, which is what I'm going to do.
I'm wondering of the same applies to the Rocket. Yes it's the worlds biggest production engine but it doesn't run a fraction of the electrical accessories that big full-dress tourers do. I'd be surprised, for example, if a Goldwing didn't have a more powerful battery. If there is one available it wouldn't take much to modify the Rocket's battery tray to make it fit. There's not much under the seat and I would have thought there's plenty of scope for adaption.

If you want high output, lipo is by far the winner half the size, twice the power. 10x the cost

To each his own on changing out batteries on a regular basis. I own two Optimates and have for 10 years. They have never failed me yet and continue work as they should. I also own several Noco units as well, all good units. I have learned to ignore reviews and most of those bad reviews are posted by idiots in one way or another. I have read to many comments on the forum over many years whining about starting issues. In the end it often ends up a battery issue and an old battery. As for battery voltage and not starting, it always ends up being draw down current on the battery and voltage drop during the starting process, not the initial resting voltage.
