Triumph Quit Ignoring Your Ignition Problems

maybe someone out there can explain the trick with the toggle switch bypassing the ignition? to help others broke down it would be something surely to carry in emerg. as if you think we would need it
That would be nice!, I will ask Scowherd to do that, he has done it in the past to get back on the road, in fact, he may show us how to do it at Maggie Valley this weekend:)

this is a rework of the jumper that greywolf posted.

Rexrocket not going to Triumph

I ride a 1979 Harley.
Until now you can tell from my R3owners name that since my boys are through school I'm ready to replace.
This ignition Switch is an OLD and EASY fix. From what I've seen from TriumphI will not get a Rocket.

Good for you, mate.

Does the Recall/Service Bulletin fix the problem?

This is the official Triumph instruction for mounting their relay and kit.
I just had my 2010 Roadster in for servicing and they did the recall. Does this fix the problem, or do I still need to look at the Eastern Beaver solution ?

Ignition Failure

I Rode my 2008 R3 Classic to work last Friday Night. Got ready to go home the next morning after a 12 hour shift. Turner switch on & nothing but the horn, brake light & had single lights. Checked fuses & called wife to come & pick me up. Went home got truck & trailer went back to work & loaded up & went to Triumph Dealer Saturday morning . The service mananger said he had no idea & if i wanted to leave it jhe would get to it in two weeks. I told him I would let him know & took it to the house with me & got on line & to this site & it did not take me long to find the problem. Mine is the white wire in the connector was melted on the wiring harness side. The male plug on the switch side was black on the white wire. Got the switch working going to bypass the plug on the white wire & ordered the Eastern Beaver Kit to put on the headlights . Contacted Triumph & they checked my vin # & said there was not nothing wrong with my bike & they did not have a switch problem. I ask about the service bulletin 421 & she said it was only the Roadster not the Classic. She did say to take to dealer & let them send in a claim on it & they might pay for parts but would not say for sure. That is where I am at now. My bike has 6,900 miles on it .

Add me to the list of ignition problems, 2009 rocket. Mine is still under warranty. If Triumph can't deal with the issue maybe the NTSB will. I would suggest all file complaints with the NTSB as a safety issue.

Thx Dinko,

SB421, Dated April 2011. Why in the Hell wouldn't the dealers notify us of the SB and get these bikes fixed?? They can replace the ignition switch on mine as well, now!! Wait until there are more issues instead of addressing the problem from the get go, sounds like an American company, WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think I'll drop mine at the dealer and leave it there until it is fixed. (under warranty) Piss me off in the middle of the riding season!!

OK, pulled fuel tank up and looked at wire harness, first plug from ignition switch back had burning and melted socket. Cut wires (pin 1) both sides of plug and Put a 30Amp, inline fuse jumping plug. Powered up and no problems since. Bike has never run so well. Took bike to dealer and they submitted it for warranty SB421 Headlight relays, will let all know what they tell me. PS, going to pull fuse out next Winter and wire in a kill switch. Good luck all!!!

They told me the same thing, trick is, they all have the same wiring harness and problem, not just the Roadster. If they don't do it I will, only about $20 worth of parts.
