Talk to me about gear

Butting in here; but, I do believe generally speaking, any full face will protect better in a post ejection slide and tumble scenario.
I have worked a lot of MC collisions, many of which were fatal to the rider. Any decent helmet will out perform the neck regarding impact forces.
Once you exceed those forces the helmet is moot, unless you're going for open casket.
When I rode sport bike, I also wore a full face helmet because I was in a down low position and riding fast - everywhere, most of the time.
Now riding upright on a cruiser, much older and not so wiser, I choose comfort. Most of the time I have a windshield and don't need a full face.
I also ride fast MUCH less of the time now a days and feel that the odds of a full face making the difference in saving my life are very small.
JMHO.
PS: Regarding the fragmented helmet I mentioned, I just learned from the medical examiner that neck and torso injuries and not head injuries ended this particular riders life.

A point I would make in the discussion of open face vs full face would be a little experiment. Stand in your driveway wearing a full face helmet. Fall backward. Repeat this time falling forward (no fair putting out your hands). Next do the same wearing an open face helmet. Note both experiments were done at a speed of zero mph.

I've been known to wear both types of helmets but I do realize the far greater risk with anything less than a full face model. As to the relation of speed to damage to one's head, the speed at which your head impacts the pavement is generally much less than your road speed. That said, higher speeds will no doubt increase the likelihood you'll suffer other serious and possibly fatal injuries.

But we are NOT comparing open face vs. full face...

We are looking for statistics comparing full face vs. modular (full coverage with a hinged opening mechanism)

excerpt from above;

Safety
Saving the most important aspect for last, safety is why we wear helmets. But some riders question modular helmets’ integrity, fearing the chinbar might come off in a crash, and pointing out that there’s a rubber or plastic liner in the chinbar rather than EPS. Obviously, we didn’t crash-test any of these helmets, and can’t vouch for their performance in a get-off. All, however, are DOT-approved, which is the standard needed for them to be sold in the U.S. Some (as noted) are also CE-approved, which means that (among other things) the chinbar has been tested to the same standard as a full face helmet.

Untill you ride like this and wear gear like this every time you go out on the bike then only do you stand a chance... Learn how to get of the bike before the situation arise...

Sorry, if I insulted you in some way...I definitely agree that there is a safety difference between open face and full or modular...That seems obvious, as you have pointed out.

We is me & Phil...although Phil has not agreed to this...I have challenged his point of claiming that a full face has a significant safety advantage over a modular.

It bears repeating, "Only rigid fullfaces for me as modulars still do not afford the either the same or better integrity in a bad get-off. I'd much rather be a little less comfortable than to be disfigured or dead."
