Well after changing the rear oil at least five times I finally sheared the bloody bolt, as we know the torque setting is only 15nm that is so low you cannot guess it, well ejit me tried to and was left with the head in my spanner.
First do not panic or kick your dog, get a small punch and gently tap the middle of the bolt(magnet) in about 1/4 of an inch then use an easy out mine did not work to good so I used a flat headed screwdriver and slowly screwed it out.
I have a couple on order from BikeBandit but until they come in I will hit the local hardware store tomorrow for a temp fix. :(

Welcome to the oh **** sheared drain bolt club....;). Sure doesn't take much, what a delicate little flower that bolt is. Good idea to keep a spare around.

Part# of drain bolt?

:confused:Does anyone know the Triumph part# of the drain bolt? - no doubt it is ludicrously expensive from Triumph. So is there a cheaper/acceptable replacement? Thanks!

Go to bikebandit.com and order one they cost about$6.00 each as said order two of the little bugers. Any hardware store will have a standard metric cap screw/bolt that will work just fine only it will not have the magnet.

The torque setting is 15NM=11Foot Pounds not tight at all in fact you could almost break it off with your fingers. Regardless if you use teflon or not you still have to use and I mean use a good torque wrench.
Mine lasted for five oil changes (change the rear every 10000miles) but this time I just gave it that little extra tweak and off it came.

How often are you guys changing the differential oil out, and what oil are you using? I've changed mine twice in 10k miles, at 5k and 10k. I'm thinking about letting it go to around 20k before I change it again. I'm using Amsoil severe gear 75-90.

RedLine Gear/Diff Fluid 75-90W

:cool:Many moons ago, when looking for the best stuff to use in the diff of my C4 Corvette, I learned that GM did extensive research on the best gear oil to use in Vette rear ends/diffs, esp in regards to severe loads/wear, and hi- temps when raceing.- #1 by far was RedLine Synthetic gear oil. I used that stuff for the last 25 years. What I intend to use in my Roadster when the time comes! Cheers.

I use Mobil 1 syn gear oil. No more than it takes, I have been changing it at every oil change. The stuff stinks when it comes out. I guess I should order a couple of the plugs too.
