Looking at the picture, the way it's broken halfway down, has me suspecting the filter was only halfway on there in the first place. It does seem apparent that the filter needs the "lip" to make it stick better to the intakes so it doesn't have to rely entirely on the hose clamps.
Also, looking at the great installation video that was linked in another thread, the hose clamps are pretty much half the width of the plastic that has sheared in the case of
@dave64 - I still have to wonder if better hose clamps would be better for the filter longevity.
