I'm not sure what Triumph means when they say the Rocket has higher gearing than a 6 speed Harley...I know my buddy's Road Glide turns 3K RPM in 6th at 80 MPH, while my Rocket turns about 3100 in 5th...maybe they mean the Rocket's 5th gear is geared higher than Harley's 5th gear?

The gearing is close but actual speed is 78mph for the HD at 3000 rpm

I would imagine that the gearing is the same on the Roadster and the Touring model, am I right or wrong? There is no tach on the touring model, if the gearing is the same as the roadster can someone tell me what the rams are at 80mph?

5th gear, 77mph at 3000rpm, add 27mph for every 1000rpm = 3111rpm @ 80mph

Unless you are running the larger BS EXCEDRA MAX rear tire that most are using now .

Thanks for the info. Thats pretty good but it would be even better with an overdrive sixth gear. In any case I'm super happy with the bike.

Unless you are running the larger BS EXCEDRA MAX rear tire that most are using now .

Even with the Excedra Max it's 78.3 mph at 3000 rpms.

SO at 9000 rpm that would be 234.9 mph fast for a big cruiser and the big rocket could easily pull a sixth gear so now we have to get TRIUMPH to produce a 6 speed for the Rocket .

If factory money was no object they should have made the touring model higher geared to use the added torque and left the roadster with the same gearing for better performance. The optimum would be to just add an overdrive sixth gear and leave the rest as is. The good thing is that the status quo is actually fine but anything can be improved. If I was designing it I would have put a chain on the rear of the roadsters and left the shaft for the touring. Triumph already has the speed triple for racing and the Rocket is just a completely different animal without a well defined category, it kind of overlaps some of their other models.

The Touring engine is the same but runs a different tune and Triumph can retune both models to produce more HP and TRQ and add a six speed gearbox

If Carpenter could give us a 240 HP motor with the same rpm range as the stock motor and the factory gave us a much higher overall gear ratio to take advantage of all the horsepower and extra torque it would be pretty cool. The top speed could be 186 because thats all they allow here in the states from a manufacturer. The performance would be breathtaking from zero to 186 and the rpms could be limited to six grand. It could cruise at one hundred at 3000 rpms and it would be lightning fast from there to its top end. It could cruise at 2500 rpms at 8o mph. This is what I would like on an over the top street bike
