WE dont need a gearing change we have a 5 speed gearbox 1st gear is fine we dont want it lower or higher and 5th gear is good for 235+ mph and what would we change we wouldnt gear it lower as it would cause the engine to rev higher at cruising speeds and it is where we want it you could ask for a 6th gear that would serve only for cruising at illegal speeds over 80 mph . these are street bikes and have to do everything If you watch the video youll see the modded Rocket gets down the 1/4 mile just fine at close to 160 MPH there are no weak areas in the power deliverey NOT the case with that 1 gear only setup on the V8 bike you mentioned now thats a bike that needs a gearbox
I'm not talking about wanting a higher top speed. I'm talking about lower rpms while cruising. The interstate goes up to 75mph in some areas of Louisiana, and up to 80 next door in Texas. So cruising at 80 won't get a ticket on lots of Interstate.

It wouldn't affect 1/4 mile times, as you wouldn't get out of 3rd on the strip

I agree that the V8 needs a gearbox to be OPTIMUM. It only has a high gear and a torque converter which makes it an automatic. It doesn't need a low gear because the little 350 cu inch Chevy engine can roast the 300 tire from a dead stop any time you twist the throttle. It would be nice to have a second gear so that it wouldn't top out at a measly 165 at 6000 rpms. The great thing is the abundance of torque at **** near any rpm so the bike feels faster than one that is buzzing at a high rpm. Maybe you think that first gear is fine on a Carpenter Rocket but what is it fine for? Its to low to be useful. The only way the bike can go 235 mph if it can is with somewhere around 9000 rpms. A higher gear would let it cruise at 80 mph at 3000 or under rpms which would be perfect for the street. Nobody is going to ride it at 235 mph at 9000 rpms unless they are at the salt flats. The carpenter bike is great but I prefer to keep the rpms down and the torque up for a bike on the street. There is no choice about the fixed gearing with our Rocket 3 bikes so you have a motor that goes a zillion rpms and gets them quickly to deal with that problem which in your opinion is not a problem. Bikes with chains or belts are much more flexible and better suited to racing. The shaft drive is great for the street on a bike designed with a gear ratio for the powerband of the engine that turns it.

I would like the same thing as far as the six speed or a taller gear goes. The engine has plenty of grunt and can easily be made to have much more. It will never be able to compete with a 600 pound V6 powered bike such as the FGR Midula posted above but I doubt that bike will ever be available to the general public at an affordable price. I would still like to keep the Rockets rpms down and add torque and gearing to make it perform a little better and cruise t a lower rpm than it does now. I admit that it will cruise effortlessly at 90 mph all day right now but it could also do that at a slightly lower rpm with no problem in an overdrive sixth gear.
SO you want to gear the rocket higher so it turns slower you cant cruise at 90 mph + without worrying about getting locked up so whats the point

I understand but you can easily cruise higher than 80 as it is But a 6th gear overdrive would lower the rpm if thats what you would like as the Rocket will pull the gearing no problem Now all we have to do is convince TRIUMPH as Ive had this conversation with them and they told me the Rocket has higher gearing than a 6 speed Harley

I think they could just up the gearing on 5th instead of redesigning the gearbox.

DAVE you insist that 1st gear is useless well your wrong try and run a good 1/4 mile time taking off in 2nd you wont .The modded Rocket will run 90 mph in 1st . and 235 MPH is faster than you need or want to run on the street , and remember the Rocket has 5 speeds so we have a gear for every situation and we dont have to run at 9000 rpm but we can . I cruse on my 250HP Rocket most of the time and dont go above 3000 rpm most of the time as it has all the power at cruising speed I need WE dont have a problem YOU DO you have the bike without a gearbox and are stuck with a tire spinning no traction trq monster that only runs 165 MPH top speed BUT I dont think you want to ga any faster on that giant chopper LOL Dave did you watch the video of the dragstrip run thats the real world not an opinion

You know imfasttoo we really do not care much for your post on the net but bull**** walks and money talks the ROCKET RULES.

Actually I don't have a problem, the V8 does everything I want and more and it has enough traction to do 9 second qtr mile times with a skillful enough rider.
As far as I'm concerned I wouldn't mind having taller gears or a sixth speed overdrive with the motor the way it is in my Rocket. I, like some others on here would like the rpms to be lower at the speeds we now ride them. I think you ride a Carpenter bike and might work for Carpenter and so your opinion is swayed. I like all bikes so my opinion is not swayed by anything, its just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to ride any certain kind of bike. Most likely no matter what someone rides they will have a good time.

Actually we can tune the modded Rockets to make 240+ HP and not rev over 7000 rpm for those that want lower rpm power we have a selection of cams so you can choose from . We can tune for power at low RPM if someone wants to pull a plow or whatever LOL we have done several custom engine mods to suit customers needs so its nothing new and all the bikes are fun as you say. I do like your CHOPPER and 165 is fast enough for that setup when you ride with one of those little novelty helmets the chopper guys wear .
