New Rocket III Touring tune question

I have almost 200 demo miles on the "cupcake" as I lead demo rides for our RatPac.
So: it's plenty quick and really handles well-MUCH better than an 08 RoadKing by way of comparison. The pull of the motor is just great. IMO for a "bagger' it is much nicer than the H-D, which all my buds have, and the big jap cruisers, which all handle almost as well but are just a bit "bland" for my taste.
Do I miss the HP? Yep, I do. Now, our Triumph rep explained to me that the bike is set to deliver just under 100 HP at the rear wheel due to European rules, ect. The bike is also limited by the rear tire for lower speed that our R3's. The HP on the R3T is easy to recover (up to around 117) with pipes and the new tune that goes with it. All of you know this, I'm sure.
Back to how it handles: I was able to really rip this bike in the twisties at 90 per and feel in control-but it felt maxed there. A bit soft at those speeds and not much clearence. No way the H-D baggers can keep that pace on that road-we went back and forth several times. Low speed-it's great, too. The R3T does not have the big power rush the R3 has-but it is sneakey fast. It's SO smooth that you look down at the speedo and go "oh, my".
I don't see the R3T as our Rocket's with hardbags added at all. It's a bagger with a better engine.

Well Pete, I'm running low on ideas.

Did you get a timeout message? Have you tried to change to Slow Download Mode (under the Options menu)?

You could also try changing the Wait Time. The manual says to try a value 5 times higher than standard and if that doesn't work try a value 5 times lower.

Are you sure you have the latest version of Tune Edit? I believe there were some changes made for the R3T. The version I'm using is 3.7.0.3.

If these things don't work, I'm afraid its email Wayne time.

Good luck.

Hmmmm. Thanks for all your help Harry. I'm running 3.6.6. I'll have a look for 3.7 on the website, but I thought I downloaded the latest version that was there. After a recovery, I'm getting messages like "Tuneedit does not recognise this base tune as it can not read from the ECU", when I try to view the current tune.

When I turn the ignition on, I get what sounds like a fuel pump cycle starting after 5 seconds and lasting for 20, BUT....the speedo doesn't move. When I hit the starter I get a single "clack", and nothing else. I don't suppose this is indicative of any known general Touring issue is it?

Sounds like progress. I think the recovery worked.

When you say the speedo doesn't move, what do you mean? My speedo does not move when the ignition is turned on. When you hit the starter does the headlight dim? Have you recharged your battery?

At this point I'd say get the newest version of Tune Edit and charge the battery.

Don't think there has been progress Harry. I have emailed Tuneboy with as much info as I can. Can't do any more as I have to go out and buy a charger as my battery is now flat.....
My speedo needle used to move across to the right and back at ignition. This is as described in the owner's handbook. If yours doesn't, I wonder if this is a "feature" of a Tuneboy download. PCIII did similar things to the Vulcan.

Interesting about the speedo. I went out to the garage and checked, just to make sure. No sweep. Funny thing is I don't recall it doing that before Tuneboy either.

I'd suggest a Battery Tender. I've used them for years. If you heard the fuel pump prime, I think your bike will start once you get the battery charged. BTW, did you remove the headlight fuse as some suggest to save the battery a bit during the Tuneboy load? I've heard the bike won't start with the fuse removed. Seems odd, but that's what some have reported.

Again, good luck.

hahahahaha. Yep Harry. I found out about the headlight fuse inhibiting starting. Even with it in I still only get a clunk at the moment.

I didn't have the fuse out in my initial 15 minutes of download, so it's quite possible the battery is flat.

I have a battery tender running right now, and have my fingers and everything else crossed. If it still doesn't start I'll try a Tuneboy recovery with the tender still running. If that doesn't work, it's back to Wayne.

Just for info..........

I have sent the following to Tuneboy. I hate these kinds of problems coz you never know if it's your own stupidity, a software glitch with the 3rd party software, or a genuine hardware/software failure on the bike that's totally unrelated.

"The battery is now fully charged. The Tuneboy cable is working (flashing). I have done a recover from failed download.
When I then try to get the ECU serial number as a test, I get the following string returned –
ECU Serial number = ffffffffff, ECU Type = 0633441930, Tune = 020233.

The Serial number I received at my original Tuneboy query was 0254492190.

I assume this might be one of the causes of non starting. Any way of returning the serial number to the correct one ?

Sorry, but I just don’t know where to go from here."
