New Rocket III Touring tune question

Guys,
Apologies in advance to those are already aware of this. Also, I'm not trying to be a smartarse.........but it appears where most of the confusion on power ratings (and other things) above comes from is simply naming conventions. Many people get confused between the earlier "Tourer" and the brand new "Touring" which is why there appears to be differing HP ratings for the "same" model, and conflicting advice.

There's the Rocket Standard(foot pegs), then the Rocket Classic (pulled back bars and footboards), then the Rocket Classic TourER (the Classic with leather bags etc) - all of which are around 140hp, and the new Rocket Classic TourING (dual pipes, single light, fibreglass panniers etc) - at around 106hp.

I have just bought a Touring, plus the TORs, plus Tuneboy. I am out of action after a knee op, so I though I'd do some pre work while I'm off my feet, especially as there is no workshop manual as yet.

Where exactly is the ECU on the Touring ? No laughing please

Regards, Pete

I believe I read somewhere that the Touring uses smaller throttle bodies.

I also believe Triumph has also asked Wayne @ Tuneboy to NOT make it possible to increase the speed limiter on the Touring. Something to do with tire ratings probably. All else is game though..

I put "I believe" because I don't know where the links are to back me up.. lol

The ECU should be under the right side cover, as your sitting on the bike? I have a Standard... but I don't see any reason why they would have moved it. But then again, I don't see any reason why they robbed a boat load of HP either... lol

Although, those who have ridden both, say they really don't notice the difference. The HP difference would probably show up more that the upper RPM range..

I think what you're looking for is the OBD2 connector for the Tuneboy cable. It next to the battery, under the seat.

I'm currently running a set of D&D exhausts, triple Tuneboy pod filters, and Wayne's latest tune for that set up. He dyno'd that setup at 138 RWHP and 150 Ft Lbs Tq. The bike is MUCH stronger than stock and feels stronger than the Standard model I tested. Since the Standard/Classic is rated at 140 horsepower and that doesn't account for driveline loss, that makes sense.

The throttle bodies are a different part number, but I haven't seen any measurements actually describing the differences.

So, while the Touring model is seriously de-tuned, the power is available if you're willing to spend a bit of money. The Touring model had everything I wanted but I was disappointed about the power loss. I'm no longer disappointed...

Thanks Harry, the connector for the Tuneboy cable is exactly what I'm after. Apologies for the poor description.

I am only installing the TORs at the moment, as extra horses wasn't an initial requirement (it's got more than the Vulcan 2000).

I am struggling to see Rocket Touring maps on the Tuneboy web site though. Are they hidden under an obscure section, or do I need new glasses ?

Regards, Pete

Nope, Wayne doesn't have them listed on the website yet.

Pig9r has them posted in the Trading Tunes section. The Triumph 20235 tune is designed for the TORS. There is a modified 20235 tune that opens the secondaries 100%. I would recommend that one. I think its called 20235-mod-sec100, or something very similar.

If you can't find them send me a PM with your email address and I'll send them to you.

I should know to leave well enough alone !!!
I installed the TORs, got my key from Tuneboy, started downloading the new map with the ignition on and not running the engine as directed, when my Oil Pressure Warning light came on. Now when I attempt to start the bike, the oil light comes on and it does not even cycle, let alone start.

Has anyone experienced this (whether working with Tuneboy or not)before I start trying to work out the root cause ????

Did you get the message that the download had completed?

If it didn't complete:

Reconnect and start Tune Edit again.
Wait for the Authenticated message.
Click Download again.

If you don't get the Authenticated message, go up to the 'Tools' menu and select 'Recover from a failed download'. This will do a full download of the unmodified tune. Once that's complete, start the process over to load the new tune.

Thanks Harry. I did try that,....no luck.....I'm getting the authentication, I'm seeing the cable activity light, I'm hearing ticking from around the ECU area, but the Edit screen "blue bar" is not progressing and the "open loop" message is showing. After 10 -15 minutes I get worried about leaving the ignition on, and shut it down. I'm in no doubt it's something I'm doing, so I'll start from scratch.
