I have almost 200 demo miles on the "cupcake" as I lead demo rides for our RatPac.
So: it's plenty quick and really handles well-MUCH better than an 08 RoadKing by way of comparison. The pull of the motor is just great. IMO for a "bagger' it is much nicer than the H-D, which all my buds have, and the big jap cruisers, which all handle almost as well but are just a bit "bland" for my taste.
Do I miss the HP? Yep, I do. Now, our Triumph rep explained to me that the bike is set to deliver just under 100 HP at the rear wheel due to European rules, ect. The bike is also limited by the rear tire for lower speed that our R3's. The HP on the R3T is easy to recover (up to around 117) with pipes and the new tune that goes with it. All of you know this, I'm sure.
Back to how it handles: I was able to really rip this bike in the twisties at 90 per and feel in control-but it felt maxed there. A bit soft at those speeds and not much clearence. No way the H-D baggers can keep that pace on that road-we went back and forth several times. Low speed-it's great, too. The R3T does not have the big power rush the R3 has-but it is sneakey fast. It's SO smooth that you look down at the speedo and go "oh, my".
I don't see the R3T as our Rocket's with hardbags added at all. It's a bagger with a better engine.
