I know that changing to a Zard gives a bonkers insane amount of lightness added to the Roadster - I know that BST make gorgeous carbon fibre wheels (wheels are best place to lose weight)

But what else can you do to chop weight out of this gorgeous brick shi*house of a bike..

Handlebars - big lump of pointlessly heavy ferrous alloy.. anyone fitted lightweight aluminium ones like Renthals or the like - what about riding position?

My street Triple was VERY light after I had finished with it, it was just fantastic, handled very well indeed (even better than it did already!) after losing about 15kg.

I dont believe customising the roadster to handle better (by making it lighter) will be defeating the point of a roadster. If you look at it this way - a true street fighter is all about customisation anyway isnt it..?

Here we go again... sorry wallet.. I have been very mean to you in the past, and I fear you are going to feel a bit violated, like when the tax man bends you over..

So - wheels - BST wheelset saves about 7kg.
Zard or similar shortie exhaust save about 9KG
Handlebars, save about a KG at least, and get benefit of vibration absorbtion from decent handlebars
Brake and clutch lever - save about 2-400 grammes over stock with Pazzos or similar

Cost.... omigod dont even want to think about it..

anything else? I am only going for the big ticket things rather than nerdy stuff like titanium bolts with poor cost/value ratio..

Any ideas?

Just don't go and gain 40 pounds or you will have wasted that money.

secondary plates a gram or two each.
About 10 lbs. of plastic air ducting come to mind right off.
Tool kit about a lb.
You can cut a couple of lbs. off that back fender too.

Putting on 40lbs or more!?

Putting on the 18kg weight saved on the bike on my body? Lol.... wasting the money saved on the lightening of the bike would be the last of my worries - but coronary failure, high blood pressure, diabetes and looking like unattractive and whale like would be a bit more important lol.. Plus also the fact I had clearly given up on life other than eating rubbish food too!

Hmmm there is indeed a fair bit of bloat on the bike as standard - I think some of it can be tastefully removed without changing the nature of the bike too much, and make it much nicer (and quicker), and easier to ride.

I am intrigued if anyone else has done similar things to their Rocket - if anyone has any tips that would be appreciated - however, I do promise also check the forum threads and use the search function...

Wheels would be good. There are some other CF bits made by member dublflush that would save some here and there. I would be careful with the Zard system, while it may save some weight, it will cost you in performance. Plus I have heard of a few that the cans have come apart.

I originally started taking things off to save weight, turn signals, reflectors, exhaust etc.. but just started adding things back on later. I ran the 1/4 with it fully loaded and then again stripped .... even the windscreen didn't slow it down. A few Kg's arent going to make or break this bike.

True enough, unless you are going on a trip with limited gas availability and just want to stretch your gas mileage some...or as Hombre has done, trying to set some speed records (and I believe spending lots of cash to do it), the Rocket will just shrug off the extra weight like it isn't even there.

Hmmmm

You guys are probably right, if you are speaking relativistically of course - 18kg from 367 for a Rocket 3 roadster, versus 12kg for 167 for a street triple - is relatively going to have more of an effect on the smaller, nimbler weight..

****ed 19th century steel alloy frame I am going to put helium in the tyres.. lol

Although, you can do a fair bit I am sure - every little bit helps with the handling and acceleration as well as stopping ability as well as every aspect of riding it.

I'm from London meself, Shepherd's Bush, Ealing, Acton, now moved out to Henley, and Florida - Good luck with the weight saving, I would do the same - my front fender is chopped, you can do the rear too - a Japanese Co does a very tasty carbon fibre total body kit, I think Joker has it on his bike, pricey though - there again you can sell off all your tins to recoup some moolah - you could think about chopping the bear claw or fit a CF one - hmmm, like the BST wheels, as you say, they will make a big improvement in handling too, probably best upgrade - I'd also remove the Roadster cat silencers, not sure what to replace them with, I quite like the Carpenter Racing megaphone exhaust - I will probably be doing a similar job myself, am importing my 2005 R3 to the UK next month from Florida, will be looking to pick up a 2nd hand Roadster in the USA next October, I defo want ABS, not sure if it can be retrofitted to an older R3 - defo will be frying the wallet whatever happens!!!
