Is the Rocket III for me? Hi from Canada!

I know I'm late to this party, and the hooligans probably ran the OP out of here already but here's my thoughts.
More than a few here went from M109s to the R3. I traded an M109 & a C109 in on my R3.

The M109 is easier to handle at parking lot speeds, and making tight Uturns. It also feels lower at the seat. Also has sportier lines (IMHO)

The Rocket handles twisties better, because it will lean further over. Acceleration is faster. Has more low end torque.

Didn't see your first post, and not sure what you're looking for. I do wonder though, if you haven't destroyed 2nd gear on the 109 then maybe you're not looking for all the acceleration. I've also seen the way some people act on the 109 forums, nobody here is any worse than they get at times.

OK...OK...time for making the FNG feel welcome is over...he either is gone forever or he will eventually find a place here in Neverland. Either way, welcome aboard or f#ck off..as you please ;)

Bout it .. well said mate.

Ok NC some answers to your questions maintenance is pretty staight forward change oil clean filters and ride. there is not any real problems with the newer ones as the bugs have been worked out prior to the Roadster years. Miner TPS issues every now and then. Clutch issues mainly because adjustment is wrong or was set up wrong by the dealer. (not every Dealers tech.s are worth there weight in cow dung. Grease the splines on the rear differential when you change the rear tire. The PDF manual has been covered already so as long as you can turn a wrench use the manual and use the software tuneing aids available they are a pretty sound beast. As I stated earlier Horse power upgrades depend on how much you want and how much you want to spend. Leave her pretty much stock and you she will run forever. Do what I did to mine and you will be working a little more on it then the stocker but then if your into Warp Speed there is no other bike that will produce this kind of power.

Let me ask you something. Have you ever asked advice from someone before? No? Do you know everything? How do you know how adventurous I am?

Let me tell you something now. You know nothing about me, or how adventurous I am. I am someone who does research before spending $16,000 on a bike, and I will ask as many questions as I feel necessary before I spend the money. Does that seem unreasonable to you?

I dont know if its because your from Australia but over here we certainly help people who ask for it. I have NEVER seen anyone as rude as you to be honost :) seriously, do you have to be a special person to own a rocket? What makes you so special?

Anyway I didn't mean to offend anyone, but seriously guys when you have someone who is interested in your brand, you have to be ambassadors. Right now, you are making all triumph owners look like *******s.

I dont know anything about triumphs, I dont know anyone who has ever even owned one. So who else am I going to ask? I don't know what kind of maintenance and other things are involved with Triumphs so I am not going to buy one FIRST and then find out.

Good day;
About a year ago I was in the same boat as you, wondering if a R3R was for me. Like you I found this forum and started to ask questions. The trick is to ask the right questions. You want to know about maintenance, reliability, options, history, tuning, mods, power upgrades....etc then ask. What you asked you can't expect anyone to answer, is it right for you? Nobody here knows you (just reminding you of what you already stated). Hell, they don't know me but answered my questions. You want to know about the Rocket, ask, but keep it objective, gather your info, put your bum in the seat to see how it feels and make an informed decision and decide for yourself.

As for your last para in the quote above, I learned about the Rocket from the outstanding people on this forum, made my decision, ordered the bike and finally picked it up last week. I wasn't even able to take one for a test drive because none were Avalible, I had one opportunity to sit on a 2013 for 5 min so I could get the feel. Even now it's in my garage sitting waiting for spring before I get my first ride. The only thing left, besides to continue learning from those who know, is to get that permanent grin everyone speaks of.

As for your third para.....really. Your feathers are ruffled over an honest post that was just an opinion. I normally don't engage these comments but you refer to "over here" as Canadians, I don't think you have the insight to speak for an entire country, I take that to heart. We are no better than others. You ask what makes Rocket Captains so special? That's an easy one, they all ride the largest production motorcycle in the world. I love saying that. Wouldn't that designation make you proud, maybe not. Harley owners are a proud bunch and your proud of your M109, nothing wrong with that.

When you use social media to ask for opinions that's exactly what your going to get. You don't have to agree with them or even like what they have to say. This is where you weed out information you find valuable as compared to the information that is of no value to you. If you find that your initial question is not being met then rephrase. I've been on the M109 forum.....not all perfect there either. This forum is full of members who have been communicating together for quite some time, couple that with RAA gatherings and what you have is a very passionate, close knit community that will answer your questions but will also get sidetracked with a little humour as well. Please be patient and respect the opinions of others, even if they don't necessarily coincide with yours.
Good luck
