Why I bought a Rocket III

I like being a little different than everyone else. Also, It's the only bike that i've ever ridden that "fits" me. I'm 6' tall with long legs and they just wrap around the bike like it was designed for me. I literally sat on one and was sold. The test ride was nothing but magical after riding Harleys...

cheers

I can only afford one motorcycle! I wanted a fast bike, I like the hot rod cruiser look, one that handled fairly well, was comfortable to ride long distances, had a good range for the fuel capacity, that leaves one motorcycle!

Never even heard of the Rocket since "BSA Rocket3" (same engine in triumph they called it "Trident") many years ago. Was walking along the river at Chester in August 09 looking at a couple of Harley's parked up when my son calls me over to look at this bike he'd seen, it's 2300cc dad, don't be daft son say's I, that will be a model No. Oh how wrong can one be. So were off to the local Triumph dealer & there are 2 new RoketIII classics' one in burgundy & cream the other in blue & silver, no demo bike, no test ride, no bike for 27yrs, drove the blue one home on 1st Sep. So why did I buy it? "love at first sight", nostalgia for the name "Triumph", because it's big & scary, & a lot of trust in John Bloor.

I was looking for a Harley when my wife wanted to go next door, to a import shop, looking for a jacket. Big, black, sexy R3 sitting just inside the door. Poised like "Hey, whats your name ?" It took my breath away.
Got on the internet and found this site. I read what all you amazing people had to say about the bike and was convinced. Haven't rode a bike in over 20 years now I proudly own a '09 R3.
Honestly, all of you helped me make the choice. The praise and enthusiasm along with the fact that many of you chose the R3 over a HD said enough.
Thanks to everyone.
And thanks to whoever started this site.
I'll be looking for some of you this summer on the E. Texas and Louisiana roads.

Welcome aboard Nolton,

I started the thread out of curosity. I knew why I chose one but I was wondering why others did. I am a relative newbie Rocket owner also. I am not one to own several bikes so I need a bike that can be everything. The Rocket is the type of bike that with the right accessories can be what ever you want it to be. I have chose to go the power cruzer, bagger and Harley smoker direction. Spend some time reading thru this site and you will get ideas of what you want yours to be for you.
Ride safe and if it has been awhile since you have ridden, be careful with that right hand until you get familier with the bike and the torque that comes with it.

Sold my 1956 HD/sidecar (which I built from a bucket of parts) when my daughter was born 1979 and bought a van, saying I'll ride again soon. Soon was borrowing my brothers bikes for quick rides. While my daughter was growing up I started collecting Triumph cars (64Herald,73Tr6). In 2005 I got kidney cancer and told my brothers that as soon as I get better I'm getting a bike. I wanted a Speedmaster Blk/red. While I was recovering my brother calls me up from Fla while he was on vaction that he found my bike. I talked to the dealer over the phone and bought it site unseen. My brother brought it home to Va. 5 months later I was able to get down there and see my ride. I wnjoyed it for the 7700 mile i put on it, but had lots of problems with the Speedy over that time and TRIUMPH offered to change the bike for me. While the talks were going on I took a ride on a ROCKET, big mistake, I asked Triumph if I could buy up and they made me a very happy rider. Just looking at the Rocket brings a smile to my face, what engineering and waht a ride. When someone asks where's Anthony, they only say "GONE AGAIN"

Out Of The Norm

I did the Harley thing to many times. Saw the rocket at Sturgis and liked it as It was not a Clone and when you twisted the grip it had a SET! ! I had a small block Boss Hoss at the time . when it came time to buy a new bike it was the only choise . I have never looked back and am smiling all the way.:D

I rode H-D for 25 years tried the R3 could not believe the result yet found it ugly (2004)
I guess the looks are no longer bothering me.
