Triumph Quit Ignoring Your Ignition Problems

In some cases Triumph have covered the cost of switch, only the very recently year model have had the problem fixed, once you get it back you need to search thru here and read about either making your own or buying the Eastern Beaver kit and Welcome to the site.
I am actually fitting one for a friend today he is coming 400Km for me to do this as the EB kits are pricey to buy here in Auss but the ignition switch bypass light relay kit is easy to make if you have a basic understanding of auto electronics
 
Dealer fixed it, it was the new style plug connector for the whole harness that melted. To me it looked like some large diameter wires and very little pins in the connector. They removed the connector and just hard wired it.
 
Hi, 09 tourer stood me up today, The RACQ service man turned up and it looks like the ignition switch has gone. Had to be towed to dealer to be fixed. Hope does not take to long. Not Happy.

My R3 05 did it at 25 k
I was on US 1 north of San Francisco ..alone and only 2 feet of gravel !!!
Fix it on site I've been able to put it back and secure it with aTy-rap
Got up to Portland dealer and he set me up with Seattle dealer took them two days to get it from triumph

My R3 08 did it at 25 k also
Same thing but I was home Lucky Me

Took out the hole ::T:: section flipped it upside down and with great care resolder the switch
Got a be gentle with it don't overheat the connection !!!

The problems come with the way it secure to the switch !!
It's NOT SECURE AT ALL
Must hook the harness leave a little slack with Ty-rap to anything that does't move next to the ingnition To prevent it from pulling the connection all the time when you steer left or right

Another failed ignition switch here. My '06 R3 died on me, luckily at gas station and not in the middle of nowhere.

Don't know exactly what burned but guys at local Triumph service located the problem and ordered new switch. Waiting to get it done now.
 

Be sure to install and Eastern Beaver (or reasonable facsimile) set up or it will happen again. The current from the lighting system all runs through the switch causing it to overheat.
 

You must keep the same key
Switch the core
Get a Locksmith if you have to
Less problem in the future
Trust me on that !!!!

Yea I know, relaying the lights is next on the list
 
ignition problems

It seems to me after reading thru all these posts that the problem with the ignition switch no longer happens after the 2009 model year for the Touring.
Anyone with a R3T 2009 or later that has had a problem?
Looks like Triumph fixed it in late 2009 .

I'd check with HansO regarding that assumption.
To my understanding the newer ones only have partially fixed the problema.
Mine is a 2012 Roadster and I installed the EB because it was cheaper than flying HansO over here to WA.
