Triumph Quit Ignoring Your Ignition Problems

Just last week I got a call from Cane Corso that his Rocket wouldn't start. To cut a long story short it turned out to be the white wire melted off inside the switch (2005 model). By coincidence I had already ordered a fuse block and relays from my local NAPA store for my '05 to make up my own kit even though I've had no problem yet. Kevin has ordered the EB kit and we'll install it when it arrives. Has anybody had any luck long term with re-soldering the wire back on the switch? It doesn't seem like it would be a problem and would save a pile of $$$.
I'm also going to add a relay for the horn and likely do the starter relay mod while I'm at it and have all of the wire, heat gun, solder, etc on hand.

Yes, I have had luck doing just that. Only, I had to do it away from home. I was at a rally and the switch failed. I didn't know it was the switch but noticed the bike would start after turning handle bars left and right. The switch was the most likely place connections would be bad and I was right. Wires melted. Being I was away from home, I had to do the temporary soldering upside down...looking at it from ground level up. To help insure the connection, I squirted the bottom of the switch and wires with silicon sealer to help keep them from moving around. I have since put in the light circuit bypass and had a factory upgrade of all the other stuff. 06 Standard

Did you ever own a Harley ? You sound proficient in roadside repair :D

Not sure if this is what everyone is talking about....new to Triumph...but I'm taking my 2011 Roadster in Tuesday for this service bulletin repair: Service Bulletin 421 Headlamp relay. Under background it says: "We have identified that the ignition switch may malfunction on the above model due to the electrical current passing through it while the headlamps are on. To reduce the current passing through the switch, dealers are requested to add a headlamp relay and fly lead assembly." The bulletin gives the VIN range as: 322159 to 482858.

Forgive me if this was already posted...I read just enough of the posts to get mad and called the local dealer.

Just unbelievable, wanted a new rocket but after 9 years of the same problems no way. Should be a criminal offense when your bike can stop running in traffic.
Begining to think the early ones ( 05 06 had less problems.)

My 08 R33 just failed this morning, left me stranded on the way to work. It got towed to the dealer for switch replacement. I just got home and started searching on here... is there a recall or anything that Triumph did to cover the cost or remedy this problem? I guess i didn't start pulling on the harness or anything, and I just filled the dang tank, and I was trying to get my shift at work covered.... what a crappy way to start the day.
