Transmission went south

The circlip issue has more to do with the shifting force through gear changes than it does engine hp/tq .... both times it happened to me were directly following track days where gear changes were hard and often at WOT.
Track days? On a Rocket 3?

I tend to agree with you. The cir-clip is a known problem. I wished I'd had payed attention to see if it was a consistent cir-clip moving or not I've been staring at the premature damage of a gear box for the last couple days in fact laying on the couch i can turn and see the exploded views in the manual thats been laying there for a couple weeks now. Believe it or not I use it as a quick reference :) I'm thinking I need to fire up my computer and go thru my transmission photos. Might even find someone recording of his transmission operating with a drill motor :)

If they were helical cut i could understand some lateral force on the clips but not being straight cut

...and if you stare too long the pictures they will start moving on the page...stop the meds and take a nap then

Probably the most fun bike I've ever punted around a track. It's a handful in the corners but the only bikes consistently ahead of me are Japanese litre bikes...the rest of the power rangers are embarrassed by 'dad' lapping them on a half-tonne brick
What the new Rockets lack in the corners, which ain’t much, they make up for coming up out of them even on a small straight way.😍

I wish someone could operate on my smashed 4th gear with a drill too, just like keyhole surgery without removing it and opening the cases! Ahh, some day we will pour in a can of nanobots to fix it for us and then have them file back out and into their box until the next repair was required. Well I saw it working on "Red Dwarf' like that anyway I think it was. 🤔 ;) :whitstling:

Alot can be learned by pondering over what you see in a picture. Like this one the cir-clip has moved out of its groove. If you look amd think long enough you will notice the slight damage to gear teeth. If this feller would have road a little more it would have ate itself up.

That's why I'm competitive on my local track. Its a short (1.6/1 km/mile) track with lots of pulling from 2nd out of corners - the 4cyls don't get a chance to stretch their legs or get into useful torque revs. The v twin ducatis are good competition though...horses for courses really

That said, do you have the older model or the 2020?

I would love to see some footage of a Rocket on a race track. I was not allowed to get mine on track, motivated by the huge mass and danger not only to the fellow riders but also fear of damage to the asphalt/tarmac if the pretty thing decides to flip.
