Perhaps it has been done but I can't seem to find it today so I ask, how many have taken their stock pipes and altered them and what might the pros and cons be? I'm considering opening my R3T stock pipes, removing the cats and baffles and giving it a shot at installing an aftermarket baffle to get the sound I prefer if I can. Any thoughts?

Pros: Cut's out quite a few pounds of weight. Better flowing exhaust. Should gain a few HP, especially if you go with better intake and a tune.

Cons: Cats are hard to get to, so you'll probably need a good torch, which means it'll probably mess up the chrome. You still have the restrictive stock header.

A couple of people on the board have just removed the stock cans, and replaced them with an aftermarket alternative. I remember someone mentioning Supertrapp. I was speaking to @JohnnyB09T yesterday, and he put some HD cans on his R3T.

Do not know a whole lot about the Rocket but learning. I do know a lot of Harley types like to remove the baffles from stock pipes in order to improve the sound of the bike. Some replace the baffle with one that is less restrictive on the noise level. Usually results in a bike that is louder but nets less horsepower. Nothing compared to a tuned aftermarket exhaust system. ;););););)

remove everything from the header pipe back then you can add a slip on of your choice I used a nice slash cut with a removeable core

Don't bother with all the work involved with cutting the stock pipes. Unless you have great skill and some really good tools to do it right. I've seen some really crappy hack jobs attempting this mod. It looks cheesy and sounds worse. Spend the money and get a set of TORs or the D&D aftermarket pipes. Both make a very nice improvement. BTW: The D&D pipes are really sweet. And since you have a 2008 Touring be sure to download the Touring upgrade tune that adds about 30 HP. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you that tune. (Assuming you have downloaded TuneECU and you have the cable.)

Thank you all. I appreciate the link as it was informative. As far as the info about Harley and aftermarket I know a little about that as I come from the Harley experience. I still own 3 Harleys. To me this machine will be different in sound and I was thinking of a different approach with it as I only would like to deepen the sound. My Harleys are not quiet, and I have a nice set of Harley 4" Bassani slip ons that I could use if I just wanted it louder. I thought to ask out here as I have heard of TORS, D&D, Dain, and want to keep this bike true to its self and to look unaltered as a sleeper. Meaning I just don't want to throw on anything or hack it all up. I feel my skill set will suffice and I have access to the right equipment to do the job right. I have downloaded tuneecu and have purchased the proper cable. I have been unsuccessful at acquiring a tune after asking twice but am understanding as a series of unfortunate events have occurred to the person I have asked. Idaho, I will PM you and appreciate the assistance. Any and all further recommendations will still be considered as it is appreciated.

Most certainly I will take and post photos as I believe in doing so as a repayment for the advice received on forums and as a pay it forward to others who might have interest in the future. It might take a bit as I do not want to rush it and have yet to make decisions on exactly what my actions will be.
