You said service manual shows the same. Where please, not doubting, just curious. My pdf service manual is same one my dealer uses cause we were looking up oil drain plugs once, and pg 591 shows the pic I posted last with 87 octane in the US. Some pg. earlier in the same pdf had 89 octane. Triumph really has bad proof readers!

My take is engine knock/pinging is your clue grade too low, and choosing lowest octane recommended by manufacturer without pinging is best for engine/performance.
( higher octane I read has slightly less co2 emitted, possibly a motive)

What version of Owner's Manual do you have? The soft copy version and the printed one I have (my bike was delivered new in May) state Publication part number 3855646-EN issue 1 at the bottom of Page 1. And neither of them have anything about fuel on Page 79. And both of them show the minimum 95 RON as I showed above. Full page pic attached.

As for the service manual discrepancies, I can't say. Except that a casual conversion error by an engineer may be the cause, confusing RON, MON and R+M/2. Because 87 MON taken as R+M/2 converts back to standard grade? I still would like to see an actual sticker from the bike (I took mine all off) because if it says premium, the Owner's manual is basically correct. And page 591 being in the context of engine management may not have been properly edited from a previous version, as the fueling section in the specifications (pg 71) is correct. *shrugs*

For what it's worth, i've been running 87 here in the states for a couple thousand miles without issue. The manual does say 87 OR HIGHER, so I don't think running higher would be a problem. My dealer also told me to run 87. He said all premium is going to do is make the bike run hotter.

Quick search states the opposite, premium runs cooler to prevent pre-detonation.
Makes sense since my perception with 87 is more responsive, which I thought hotter. Don't really know. Glad 87 is fine.
