Rockets Across America III

I'm preparing you................

All the NWF boys will have to ride up together, we can make scary faces at all the cars that we pass. My schedule is wide open we had kind of planned on leaving Thursday afternoon and passing out at some flea motel along the way.:D

Find yourself a Taliban 8 along the way...I'm sure there will plenty and plenty of available rooms. Whether the rooms are clean is another matter. You'll know you are in a 'correct' Taliban....The clerk will look reminiscent of a Kuban with greasier hair, possibly a turban and have his/her whole family behind the desk. In the morning you can get a 'continental' breakfast.....little boxes of Rice Krispies served with warm (leftover) milk from the previous day and sticky (I mean STICKY) buns or dougnuts that are sweating. Nuth'in beats a glazed doughnut, glazed in moisture from who knows where.........Ah, the 'Taliban 8 culture, ya can't beat it.

Make sure you park the bikes in a conspicoius spot. You know Taliban clientele too well.

Daryl,
Pete and I got a room at the "Fly Rod Inn". Its listed on the places to stay information. Are you planning on leaving Thursday morning then?? I think Dennis and crew are leaning toward late afternoon. Pete and I are still open on the time . . . I've got the day off, I think Pete does too.

I also have a couple of folks wanting to meet up with us . . . Harley riders. One from Corpus and one from Dallas . . . looking forward to it.

Yeah, I'd like to leave in the morning. If you guys want, I'm sure we could all crash at my folks' house Thursday and ride on up Friday, or do you guys have rooms Thursday?

Snuff.....

If you can afford to feed that Dodge Ram, you can afford to feed the Rocket. I know that Sterling Heights special don't get 40 or 30 or 25............. If its a diesel, maybe 20 but never fear. After you get about 60K on it, the mileage will drop as the electronic injection capitulates.......:D
Flip, I got rid of the Dodge when I bought the Solstice. It was like sawing off my left nut. I'll get me an older "beater" pickup when I find a good deal.

I have a friend coming with me now. I think he's bringing his Harley. Hopefully he can keep up!

I rode with two friends with Harleys, an Electra Glide and a mildly hopped up Night Train, up to Sturgis in '06.. lol. When I really wanted to get moving, they couldn't keep up... lol I was nice most of the time.

I just talked to Pete and it looks like he wont be able to leave until after 3:00 on Thursday so looks like I am in the late afternoon crew riding out.

I think I'm going to try to get an earlier start than that. My folks place is just south of Little Rock. I think I'm going to plan on staying there Thursday night and then make my way to ES Friday. It's around 220 from my folks' place to ES.

The time for us West Florida Rocket riders was basically set to coincide with me getting off of work. For all of the West Florida riders going to ES, you do not have to wait on me, if you would like to go earlier, go for it, if a few of the riders want to wait on me, that's great but if I'm by myself at 5 pm leaving the dealership, my feelings are not going to get hurt.

According to Dave (Scot in Exile) I probably would hold you up anyway as I'm not going for any land speed records...but I do plan on making good time to wherever we/I eventually stop in Mississippi.

Flip, I got rid of the Dodge when I bought the Solstice. It was like sawing off my left nut. I'll get me an older "beater" pickup when I find a good deal.

Didn't know that. I like the Solstice and it's sister the Sky. We have a Solstice at school, I've seen it completely torn apart and they are built very nicely underneath the body. Engine is a little anemic however. Our 'Program' car at school has a 504/Tremac 5 speed in it. I drove it on the test pad. It's a hoot. It's a tire incenerator....Rubba in every gear.

They will keep it for 2 years and then junk it, excuse me, shred it. Of course the motor, tranny and rear end will come out along with the electronics, wheels and tires...then off to the shredder. 3 weeks ago I got to take the forklift and run the forks right through the side of a Yuke Denali...was heading to the shredder too. Sheet metal just don't stand up to a 10,000 pound Hyster.

Same goes for me. If anyone is interested in parking at my parents house, let me know. I've already talked to my mom (today's her b-day) and she said no problem. They live between Pine Bluff and Little Rock, just off of the interstate.

I assume you West Florida guys are taking the most direct route, which will be through Mobile, Hattiesburg, Jackson, Vicksburg, Tallulah, etc... on through Pine Bluff and into Little Rock. If so, you'll be passing right past me. Even if no one is interested in leaving when I do, you can still come by Friday (as a rest stop) and then we can all ride on together.

Again, ES is around 220 miles from my parents. I don't do the speed thing, however. But, I won't hold anyone up. If you're into that, I'll simply wave as you fly by and catch up to you at the destination.
