Rockets Across America II - 2007

Ray FYI

I went to the Nashville Chamber site this weekend and tried a couple of checks on lodging for the July 6 weekend. A number were booked already. I also went to the Triumph web site and found there is only one Triumph dealer in Nashville. If you don't mind I will give him a call this week to see if they may have a suggestion on a good inexpensive place where a bunch of old farts would be welcome. Please if anyone else has any other ideas jump in. I rode about 90 miles again this am, other than my hands getting numb (Kury grips?), the rest felt pretty good. Got to start training somewhere.

what kind of gloves do you wear? Find a nice pair of gel palmed gloves. Full fingers are a must. You could also try relaxing your grip.

Britman

I found the website of that triumph dealer as well. It would be great if you called. We do need everyone to book rooms soon. I camp in Sturgis, but not twice in one year. I told one of my buddies that roughing it for me was a black and white TV. He said for him it would be a color TV without a remote!

Latest Update

I called Castle Powersports in Nashville today and spoke to Jared who is one of the salesmen. Great guy and helpful. He e-mailed a list of several motels on the east side of Nashville close to the lake and airport and called me at home tonight to make sure I got the info. Most were booked for the weekend from checking on line and the ones that weren't seemed a little on the high side money wise. I called the 800 number for Super 8 Motels and found a motel on the west side of town that has rooms, (I blocked nine in my name just incase this is what everbody wants, if not I can cancel with a call.) Rooms should run about $65.00 each and from looking at the place it looks clean and is about 5 miles from downtown and right off of Interstate 40 on Charlotte Pike. There are more rooms open if needed. I guess what it comes down too is who is really going to go and is this place about what everybody has in mind? If anyone has any added info about the Nashville area please jump in now so we look at all possibilites. Guys I guess it is time to poop or get off the pot, so here goes. I will be there. I only ask if anyone passes me laying on the side of the road with my back out, please make sure I am not in a position to violated by a passing hillbilly. Confirmation numbers and booking rooms, wherever we decide to stay, should probably be done by pm's or the chat room since this is an open forum. Also the dealership would love to see about 15 R/3's pull into their lot on Sat. morning if a ride could go that way.

How many hillbillys to a room? I'd share the cost if there would be another captain out there willing to gamble on spending some close time with a stranger. I don't snuggle too close, just ask my wife:roll: . If anyone is game, we'll take one of those rooms. 1/2 of $65 per night is up my alley.

See ya.

Well, I'm in too. Everyone knows I have a filthy habit (no, not that....:D ), but I can do a non smoking room with a fellow Rocketeer, no problem. I don't snore at all....I have a CPAP machine that I plug into and I'm instantly in never-never land until the AM. I'll have to load up the saddlebags with cheap cigs for my budds back here in Michigan, where taxes and cigs are high and the roads are crap.:)

Again, I'm not at all particular who I room with. I'd prefer, of course, a fairly young blonde or redhead with Victoria Secret undies, but then, I'd not get anything done the next morning. Scratch that. Come to think of it, I'd probably wind up in ER. When we all get-together, I'll have to relate the story about my snowmobile roomies and their sleeping habits.

Britman, if you are on the side of the road laying on your belly, I'll be sure to roll you over so the 'Deliverance' boys will have a hard time 'lining up'.

I'm going to leave this all up to someone else to arrange. I'll just bring a credit card. Piggr has my phone number so if you need to call me, get it from him. I believe it's also on the USCA website, www.sidecar.com under Michigan State Rep. I know it's in their bi-monthly rag.

Just a quick updade-past my bedtime

Flip good to see you aboard. Yes it still on a Friday July 6 arrival. All nine rooms I just found out today are non smoking and singles for that rate. There are smoking rooms and doubles open too, but limited numbers so I will post info on the how to book as soon as everyone decides if this place is ok or look else where. It will be real soon!!!! Final note, Jared the salesman from Castle Powersports called me again today. Said his boss would like to do something at the dealership if we all ride over on Sat. Maybe a local RAT Pack ride or gathering to celebrate a bunch of old farts really getting there from across the Country. He also needs info on exact numbers and a time if we are interested. Does anybody know where you can buy BEER in Tenessee? Package stores or grocery stores like Virginia. I asked the lady on the phone today, but there was somewhat of a language barrier......

Drinking....omigosh!

Man, you guys are going to be putting me in a bind. Since I don't drink, I guess I'm going to be the "designated driver...I mean rider", it's going to be tough riding each Rocket back to the hotel, how am I supposed to get back to the bar to pick up the next one???
Oh, and today I finally leave Camp Black Horse for the last time, around lunchtime here, on the first of two convoy's to get to Bagram to fly out to Dubai on Monday morning.
