When i say sketchy, I should expound to clarify.
What I consider Launch control, as a system should have an adjustable RPM so you can match it to the surface, provide just enough thrust to go as fast as you can without lifting the front tire.
What it does in practice is more of a 2-step, you set the launch RPM, it will hold it there while the clutch is pulled and when you launch the bike then limits power a bit using the secondaries until 20 mph (or kmh I don't recall at the moment). It doesn't prevent wheelies or burn outs. It's really just a 2-step.
