I think that is all that needs to be done to fix the poping off issue, wether or not it would fix the cracking issue is another thing.

I've never had any trouble with K&Ns. I've had them on my Rocket for 60,000km (triples for close to 40,000) and probably the same distance on other bikes. Never had one pop off or split or cause any trouble at all. While it seems clear to everyone except Ramair that the Ramair filters are dodgy, to say that all aftermarket filters are dodgy is a bit rough.

I can't believe that when i sent the picture of mine to them i got an email saying the replacement was on its way , oh and by the way here is a youtube video by some bloke to show you how to fit them properly . I still say the crankcase breather of mine is the proof its swollen soft and split 9/10s the way round , this didn't happen from poor fitment . I still think the rubber is wrong for the fit it don't like the oil or heat or fuel .

Hi Tony,


Thanks so much for your information. We recognise your points about the raised lip. This was noted in the original designs and between the tool makers, 2 prototype fitters (R3Owners.net users) and Chris (here in house) it was decided that is was an unnecessary addition to an already complicated mould. The issue when you introduce positive sections in tools such as this is the release of the filter from the tool.


This all said I think it would be fair for us to try and use a different shore hardness of silicone in our tool to allow for the lip recess. Our tools are not like that of K&N and because of our material difference (foam not cotton) we cannot mould in the more traditional sense, like they do. We are planning on making some more prototypes in the next week and will be sending them to two or three users of the R3 product (one hopefully being a franchised dealer). We will discuss with them the result of the fitment in due course.


We have on file 9 customers with failed units over 16 months. Whilst this is 9 too many for our liking there are still over 300 users who are successfully running the product. We are endeavouring to cure this hurdle that some users are encountering and will be in contact accordingly with our recommendations.

I do hope they get a handle on the issue. I'd love to buy one of these but right now there's just too much insecurity as to durability. I love everything else about the product - the foam, the way they integrated the o2 sensor and so on. If it wasn't for the cracking and fitment questions I'd already have ordered.

So in other words it was too difficult to make it properly so they cut corners and knowingly made a product that was likely to fail in some installations. They're still in denial and have no intention of making it fit correctly, just hoping for something a little better but still sub-standard. Shame.
