Got this one this morning, September 4th. Tommorrow marks 4 weeks in the shop. Here's the email:

DENNIS,
JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE. WE PULLED THE CLUTCH COVER THE OTHER DAY TO BEGIN THE INSPECTION PROCESS FOR DAMAGE AND WORKED ON IT UNTIL THE CLOSE OF BUSINESS THAT DAY. THE BIKE IS SCHEDULED TO GO BACK ON THE RACK THIS AFTERNOON TO CONTINUE DISASSEMBLY. THE BELLY PAN AND RELATED COMPONENTS WILL BE REMOVED. I’LL LET YOU KNOW OUR FINDINGS.
THANK YOU,
KRISTINE

On the plus side you in on a warranty claim, they are pulling the sump or (bellypan) as she likes to call it. This will give them the oportunity to notice if anything alse is bad while they are cleaning the sump screens. If they find any other problems it will most likely be warranty stuff also. Think of it as a major check up.

Such a long drawn-out slog!!!

I see the plusses in that they are covering (supposedly) this under the drivetrain warranty. I also feel the minus side of the equation as well. 28 days without a bike and no loaner offered is a long time (especially in Summertime). The 8th is this coming Saturday and marks an entire month of this crap (for lack of a better word). I am just having a hard time with wanting to ever be a repeat customer of this company or this dealer. Let's just call it a bitter taste in my mouth.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

I just got this new email from Thiel's Wheels. It looks like it shsould be finished in about a week (from today). Here is the email:

DENNIS,
YOUR BIKE WAS DISASSEMBLED TO THE CLUTCH AND SUMP. SMALL BITS OF METAL SHAVINGS AND DEBRIS WERE FOUND, I COMMUNICATED OUR FINDINGS AND PICS TO TRIUMPH. GASKETS AND THE SPRING HAVE BEEN ORDERED. YOUR BIKE IS SCHEDULED TO BE REASSEMBLED 9/14/12, AS PARTS WILL NOT BE HERE FOR APPROX 1 WEEK. AS YOU DISCUSSED WITH NEAL, THE SERVICE WRITER, YOUR 20K SERVICE WILL ALSO BE COMPLETED ON THAT DAY.
THANK YOU,
KRISTINE

Great now the question is? The metal shavings are they Swarf from manufacturing or are they the rear output dive bearing. Its good that it has been noted to corporate Triumph. And it verywell could be engine swarf from when they machined it so do not get all bugged about it until they answer the question.
Might be time for a update kit.

On the road!

Now just imagine this scenario,,,,! You are on a long road trip with your trusty R3. Two states away from home this happens! Who pays for the 28 days in the motel room? And food costs? And time off work? Etc.!

This whole incident smells like bull**** to me! I would be up Triumph's ass big time! I would also be consulting with an attorney regarding compensation for your inconvenience and down time!!! I think I would also be speaking with the attorney about the vehicle Lemon law and how it applies in your state!

Also, what is this crap?

"GASKETS AND THE SPRING HAVE BEEN ORDERED. YOUR BIKE IS SCHEDULED TO BE REASSEMBLED 9/14/12, AS PARTS WILL NOT BE HERE FOR APPROX 1 WEEK"

You mean to tell me they have just NOW ordered the f***ing parts!!!!!!!!!!

This does not look good for Triumph! Maybe another brand of motorcycle should be in the future for anyone who wants to ride long distances!

What update kit? It's an 2010. The 08's and up should have the upgrade kit.

No more Triumphs, period!!

This is making Harley Davidson look pretty danm good to me. I had a Victory once and I know from experience that Victory makes a **** good motorcycle. Both made in USA and the parts are right here on this continent. I also kinow that Polaris will back the Victory, as I had the ratchet shaft break leaving it stuck in 5th gear. It was a ***** starting out in 5th but when I got it to the Vic dealer it was fixed in about a week for no charge whatsoever. A vastly better experience than what I am having with Triumph and this 1/2 fast dealer.

My 2 cents:
I documented the issues I had with my R3T a while back. Two breakdowns 2 days apart thousands of miles from home. It soured me on Triumph products, but I gotta say that Triumph (corporate) made good on the costs. They stepped up and paid for "pain and suffering" as it were.:D

You just gotta stay on 'em!

I feel your pain as I know I could have pulled her down and had her back running in 4 hours flat. (with parts on hand though) the bad thing is the all the parts are most likely less then 100 bucks. Hopefully your problems will be over and miles of smiles will begine soon and chase away the bitter taste of this mshap.

Ohio Lemon Law

Unfortunately, even though my bike has now reached the 30 days in the shop requirement for the Lemon Law here in the Buckeye State, I have already passed the one year or 18,000 mile limitations of this law. Otherwise I could be either getting a new bike or a full cash refund. Maybe a slick attorney might get around the limitations, but probably not for cheap. Needless to say, I will probably begin some shopping in earnest this coming springtime. Who knows, maybe some of that bitterness will have worn off by then.
