I wonder if its just a bad batch from the distributor. My 06 spring is still good (knock on wood):D

Hopefully your right! The OP sounds like he rides his bike fairly easy. Not sure if speed shifting and such would exacerbate the problem. Most likely a bad batch of springs. One can only hope and hope your own bike has a good one! :D

transmission issues detent spring

i also have a problem with trans. the shifter just moves freely, like the shifter shaft is broken ...could this be a detent spring issue. 09 rocket touring 9000 miles on it. thanks for any help.

Hard to say. My shifter moved freely but the bike wouldn't stay in gear (2,3 &4) all the time.
Does the gear selector return to the middle position if you move it up or down?
If not, you may have a broken Gear Change Return spring. You can see it in the first picture that Warp provided in post #15. It's the big one on the end of the shaft.

Just when I thought......

Like I said just when I thought there was a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, I get this email today. Only the British could possibly sit around twiddling their thumbs while I go without my bike. Today is August 28th. here goes:

DENNIS,
JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE. THIS WAS THE RESPONSE FROM TRIUMPH 8/27. I WILL SEND YOU ANY ADDITIONAL INFO AS SOON AS I RECEIVE IT.
THANK YOU,
KRISTINE

Good day Kristine, ma'am I forward this onto another for their opinion in this matter and we will advise shortly.
Thanks
Tommorrow will mark three weeks since I rode into their shop!! No apparent action or even awareness of the situation in jolly old England. I wonder if they're waiting on the camel caravan to ship the spring across Asia & Europe?? Perhaps they really are stalling to see if they can get past the two year limit on the warranty, who knows??

Is this your selling dealer? I would ask to speak with a Triumph service rep from the factory and let them know you EXPECT Triumph to either pay your payment for the time the bike is down, or extend the basic warranty an equal amount of time as to match the time the bike is down!

Triumph needs to get their **** together. Like I said in an earlier post, this is most likely another reason why Triumph has such a "Small" foot print in the states! :(

Bad Karma

That is my feeling. Yes Thiels Wheels in Upper Sandusky Ohio USA is my selling dealer. Yes I have "outed" them, largely due to this drawn-out bungled mess. Definitely Bad Karma!! I will never again waste my money on another Triumph motorcycle nor will I ever again purchase from this dealer. I am absolutely finished buying any import brands period!! Harley Davidson or Polaris Victory will be getting a new customer soon. Hopefully their customer service exceeds the piss poor treatment I have gotten from Triumph and Thiels Wheels!!

So far I really like my 011 R3T. But,,,I've not encountered any problems with the bike yet. Except a loose upper radiator hose clamp and I don't really consider that a problem.

I understand any man made machine can and will have a few problems due to faulty parts, Etc. But it seems like quite a few folks here have had issues that concern me. Quite frankly, my 2005 Honda ST1300 was the best engineered M/C I have owned. I just could not get used to the riding position or I would be still riding it.

The fit and finish, paint, Etc. were exquisite! I called it my "Singer sewing machine." Nothing, I mean nothing went wrong with the bike. Every time I went out on the road I felt confident I would always arrive at my location trouble free.

Now some will say even the ST can break. Sure they can. But the vast majority of them don't! That's the point. I only wish Honda would have made a better looking cruiser. I would then be riding one instead of my Rocket. But with all that said, I still like my Rocket. Only time will tell if it let's me down. I was and still am expecting the bike to be my last M/C. It better not let me down!!!!!

Another fine example of the contempt that Triumph Corporate warranty group has for their customers.

If I didn't experience this rotten treatment first-hand and to the tune of $3600 out of pocket on a bike with only 2,000 miles (two separate attempts to install update kits), I would find this un-believable and an exageration.

To make matters worse!!

Today is August 31st, 25 days in the shop!! I called the dealer yesterday and their tech said it's still on hold as they couldn't find the broken missing piece of the spring. I repied it has to be somewhere in the engine or transmission since they share the same oil supply. Seems the dealer has poorly trained techs who might just be inexperienced and underpayed. After hanging up I got on this forum and copied and emailed them the picture of the removed sump cover, explaining to them where they might find the piece. Then they offer (while the bike is down) to do the 20,000 mile service on it 1,700 miles early. Maybe to get some of my money they're losing on this warranty job, who knows. Kind of leary of letting them touch anything else though!! I don't know how much longer this will take or how much worse this will get. UNHAPPY!!!!!!!!
