Quick Release Sissy Bar for the Roadster

Ok

Here is the bracket laser cut from 6mm plate and bent to the required shape. It has an offset of 56mm.

Here are some photo's of it all mounted up. Ignore the hex bolt on the front mount as I need to get a longer cap screw.
As soon as I get the longer cap screws I will try the fit of my saddlebags and then send them off to be chromed.

To put the unit on or off you just loosen the bolts a turn or 2, slide the front of the bracket over the 2 front posts and then lower the back down on to the 2 rear posts.
Nip up the bolts and your away.

I will post photos of the finished product when all chromed.

Seems to me this could be made to work with the factory classic leather saddlebags, probably after doing the drill-through mod for two bolt removal. I'd like to be able to remove the backrest without removing the bags. The posts would only need a slot for the backrest, of course, not easy brackets.

Fyi

I recently installed a sissy bar backrest with luggage rack on my 2011 Roadster. When I ordered it, I spoke to the parts guy who told me that the backrest was the same for all models and that it would fit any of them, roadster, classic or touring. I doubted him, knowing that the roadster has a wider rear tire.

He was in fact correct. The install went off without a hitch. Since I have been assured that at least the width of the rear fender is the same on all models, the quick release made for the rocket touring bike, should in theory, work with any of the rockets as well.

I haven't tried it out, but it seems logical.

Anyone prove otherwise?

Roadster standard and classic are exactly the same width rear tire its only the touring that has the thin cheese cutter tire on it

The touring models uses a different mounting bracket, and you are left with a big bracket sticking up when you remove the bar. I think the touring model and thunderbird use the name sissy bar as they look almost identical.

I agree; that would be the way I'd prefer to go too.
