Just as a side note to the oil checking, today I checked mine before start / run procedure then again after the 3 minutes. The level went down by 15mm after the start / run procedure.

So if you're feeling lazy & can't be bothered doing it by the book, you know it's going to drop by 15mm & see if it still has enough. :)

Very interesting

Thanks all I have the oil so I'm going to put a little in later after work and test again see what results I get bit by bit I appreciate all the advice.

A half of a qt brings it up about that much (1/2"). It takes two full quarts to bring it up to the middle if not on the dipstick after an oil change from a stealership. Yes, I know.
My KTM Superduke always came back for the dealership sort of oil. It was within limits but to top it up to max took just over one 4L bottle of oil. I reckon they just chucked 4L in because they were too tight to break into a second bottle.

I think these morons just poured it in until it was reading on the stick and called it good. The engine sucked up two quarts when it started and they never rechecked it. It wasn't at the bottom of the crosshatch or even touching the bottom of the dipstick. The dipstick was BONE DRY. :banghead: plano

Schoolboy by error or plain incompetence by the dealer.

If the oil level is anywhere between the max & min mark then it's absolutely fine - your oil pressure is the critical part.
Even if the oil level was slightly below the min mark, it would still easily pick up enough oil to maintain pressure - there is always a buffer built in.

Yes, I personally keep mine in the top half but this is nothing to worry about at all.
