Gas?

Oil filter foam

It was stolen from me...so I made a homemade anti-theft device using an accelerator cable...

Hey, that's a great idea. I'll use it with the foam. I can't believe this cap has no gasket or o-ring to keep it on and crud out.

@RUN666 I have a couple of questions.
What makes you think it was stolen and didn't just fall off?
Have you found it hanging after installing the lanyard?

Yes, I'm sure I didn't lose it because I parked in front of a friend's store with the cap on and when I got out it was gone...
I installed the cord AFTER it was stolen...the joke cost me 50 euros...
Well, I think that if the guy is motivated he will break everything to steal it from me but at least I will have tried!
Proof that I'm not the only one to have had a cap stolen: on the new models there is a mechanical fixing for the radiator cap...

After checking the system, it seems to me that a few dots of silicone (automotive) placed on the cap (inner side... in contact with the plastic) should be enough to secure it.

Frankly, Triumph is making fun of the world when you see the crappy mountings on these caps; it's unacceptable given the overall quality and finish of this bike...

Every time I fit the oil cap on mine I wonder whether it's going to stay there. But it's not just the oil cap. The fuel filler flip-up cap is poor quality as well. I don't know why since these details are usually very good on other Triumph models.
When I took my Rocket in for it's service last year they gave me a 400 Speed as a loan bike. When I fueled it up I was struck by how much smarter the fuel filler cap was. On a bike that costs less than a quarter the money of the Rocket.

I'm pretty sure the coolant cap wasn't redesigned for anti-theft reasons. They were falling off too. Now the screw holds it tight. They tried to fool everyone with those cheap plastic faux caps like they were genuine. It's sold as a premium bike but far from one, mine is covered with corrosion and discoloration and it's always been garaged.

I agree with the above, some of the brushed aluminium finishes are deteriorating quite badly for a bike that's only a couple of years old. Yes mine is garaged too. However the PO used to keep it under a lean to (3 walled shed) so it would have been exposed to a lot more damp air there, and he lived by the sea. I've cleaned up a lot of it using 3m steel wool substitute. The surface of the aluminium scratches / marks easily, so you have to go the same way as the original brushing was done else it'll look like ****e.
