I'm 73 and been riding since 1956. I don't hear as good as I did when I was thirty but I been just chalking it up to old age. I didn't start wearing a helmet on the street until about 91 or whenever the helmet law came to California. I wear ear plugs on long trips but not just around town. I the exhaust sounds more comfortable to me at 60 than it does at 80 so rpms do have a bearing on that.
Yes the ear plugs do stop the wind noise when traveling at high speeds and that helps a lot on those long fast rides

I found my NeXX carbon helmet basically removes all wind noise...but.... it resonates with the CES pipes effectively amplifying the sound of the exhaust considerably, so its a trade from 1 to the other.

No thats what they say they get 30mpg I get 40+ the last time I did the fuel check running on the highway I got 44mpg on the modded bike ask PHIL hes been with me and we are always surprised at how good the mileage is

Don't know "they" but I always get around 35 give or take a few.
Largest part of this MPG stuff is how fast one rides.
Even when doing 65 on the slab I have NEVER seen near 40MPG.
Bad me, I reckon.

YOUR a bad boy BULL you know it all adds up as to how the bikes setup and how aggressive you ride but who gives a **** anyway its only a few dollars for a tank full of gas and as long as were having fun thats what counts all this fuss over a few dollars worth of gas ride as fast as you want and enjoy yourself

If you ride a motorcycle you get pretty good fuel economy no matter what model it is. If you want better fuel economy then maybe a Vespa or one of the little Chinese scooters. If that isn't good enough and you refuse to walk try hitchhiking. I would think that fuel economy is not high on the list of concerns for owners of Rocket 3 bikes.

It is pretty funny that we're talking about improving fuel economy of the largest displacement production motorcycle...

I agree that the setup has something to do with mileage. My stock motor never got over 32 mpg. After the Carpenter package I get from 35 to 37.5 on the highway depending on speed. 60-70 gets about 1 or 1.5 mpg better than 70-80. No surprise there. What did surprise me was that two tanks in a row on the interstate at 85-90 mph was my best mileage of 37.5 mpg.
The only reason I can see is that the rpms put me where the torque is higher.

I get around 40 when I burn a tank on backroads in the 60-65mph ballpark.
And I do drop about 25% to around 30 when I burn a tank out running over 75mph.

Cost of fuel isn't really a concern, but a 150 mile range is a bit of a let down.

If the BEST mileage I ever got was 30mpg; I'd still love the Rocket.
I'd just love it a bit more if I could ride to the hill country without stopping for gas every 2 hours.

WOW 37.5 at 85-90 mph thats surprising cant complain about that

Just think what it would be like if your bike did not have to carry someone the size of a Grizzly Bear :D

80mph may not get you there much sooner than 65mph when on short trips, but if you are eating Interstate all day then it can take a good couple of hours of the trip.
