Yes the ear plugs do stop the wind noise when traveling at high speeds and that helps a lot on those long fast ridesI'm 73 and been riding since 1956. I don't hear as good as I did when I was thirty but I been just chalking it up to old age. I didn't start wearing a helmet on the street until about 91 or whenever the helmet law came to California. I wear ear plugs on long trips but not just around town. I the exhaust sounds more comfortable to me at 60 than it does at 80 so rpms do have a bearing on that.
