You may recall that we went down on June 9. Smashed up the '08 Rocket Standard to the tune of around $6500 USD, although damage now is confirmed to be entirely cosmetic w/no frame or fork damage.

Got square with the insurance man and met with the shop yesterday. Shop says they can fix in about 3 weeks. We rather suspect that this is very optimistic.

As an alternative, the nice shop owner man has an '11 Roadster w/10K miles on it and offered to trade at a pretty reasonable deal. The bike is stock and the flat black color, which we don't really prefer but don't feel strongly about. Otherwise looks good.

We are tempted to trade up. Anybody care to offer any insights? Seems like one reaches the point of "diminishing returns" pouring $$$ into the '08, although the shop assures that they can restore her to her former glory. If we trade up, we do not have to hassle with the repairs and such. The Roadster is three years newer and has a couple of nice (but minor) features that the '08 does not have. Nice looking bike other than the flat black and those horrible looking silencers. We would have to add a few things (wind screen and etc), which of course will be additional $$$.

What to do?

We trudge on (in a quandry).

Which shop owner? If you can get a new ride (with no repair/ accident history) at a reasonable price, I would be all over that. Making changes to suit yourself on a new scooter is most of the fun as far as I'm concerned.

If you don't like the paint or the silencers then I wouldn't buy it. Look for something else.
I have the matte black Roadster with the" horrible looking silencers". If it was painted a different color or had the 3 silencers I wouldn't have bought it. Triumph changed the exhaust for a reason and I bet that reason MIGHT be that people didn't like the look of the 3 silencers.

The three pipe set up is what sets Triumph apart from the run of the mill bikes that plus a tractor engine,:D the Roadster is a nice looking bike but the exhaust system I am sorry but only a mother could love that set up:eek: the thing is massive I know that the Rocket platform is big but the Roadster pipes are way out of proportion.
Does anyone have any pictures with another exhaust system on the Roadster.

I have a R3 08 & a 2012 Roadster The Big Pipes Grow on you I have the TOR's, They are the same size but they sound better! I have the Roadster Pegs on Both Bikes ,the ABS Brakes are nice and a few other little thing's. The o8 is one of the best years but it depends on how good the Deal is ? Hey- Howdy Texas Rocket Riders.
Stealth- I like those Pipes, are they a good fit ? & How do they sound ?

Stealth - Nice. What are they? Welcome, by the way.

Charlie - hope the Roadster pipes don't "grow" too much. ;)
Still think the Roadster pegs look wrong, almost unbalanced, but that's just my opinion.

A4 sheet of paper , line down the middle , + on one side - on the other. Good and not so good of just about any decision i have trouble with ... works for me... You'll trudge on ... '08 or '11... no biggie ;) glad you are up and at'em again mate.

Show me a bike with three silencers on the Triumph website

I looked and I can't find it. I might have over looked it but If three pipes sets it apart from other bikes then that was in the old days. I think Triumph went with "Out with old in with the new" approach on the Roadster.
