Ride
everywhere
Hello all,
my R3GT is 1 year and 8 months old, still in warranty. I was on the first service was by 1000km, then by 13000km and by 27000km. I shortened the interval from 16000 to 12-13000km, it is surely better for the engine. Before last service I checked the oil level and no oil was missing.
By 38000km I noticed strange sounds from the engine on idle, which ended on higher revs. Because the sound was familiar to me from older cars and motorcycle, I checked the oil. In short, I could not see any drop of oil on the stick. I bought a bottle, filled 3 dcl and sound was again normal. But Still no oil on the stick. After calling with service I filled next 4 dcl (I was on the ride) and checked it today evening after the motorcycle was parked several hours. I filled the rest of the bottle, together 1 liter of oil to have level approx 1cm above the minimal level. Theoretically I should add there maybe another liter to be on the top level.
I have no leaks, no blue smoke, motorcycle runs without problems and also when I missed the oil, no oil warning was on the dashboard. I have found it only by the sound and then on the stick. it is surely something wrong to lost 2 liters of oil in 10000km.
Do you have any so experience?

I don't know what and when could happen. I ride normally, after start at least 10 minutes very carefully, also later mostly between 2500 and 3500 revs, sometimes of course higher, but only after complete warming of the engine.

Did you check the level soon after that service? It sounds like (if I'm understanding correctly) it was good before the service and then quite a while after that the level was really low. Could the service department failed to put in enough oil?

Mine, btw, uses oil but I think it's because the first owner didn't break in the bike properly. If my guess, above, is incorrect that would be a strange thing to happen suddenly well after the break in period.

I am first owner. Before I checked the oil time to time, but was always ok.
After last service I did not checked the oil level at all. I also thought that they gave me less oil than should be, but as I see it now, I miss maybe (almost) 2 liters to full level. This is too much.

It sounds to me like your shop screwed the pooch. I'll bet now that you've topped it up that your oil level remains constant.

It looks, and I hope, that yoy are right.
After 11000km I missed approx 2 liters from full amount. I filled 1 liter. After next 1500km is the oil stand the same.
I am not able to distinguish changes in the level in the range of 1-2 millimeters, because this can also be caused by the way the motorcycle is standing. Anyway, if the oil would disappearing linearly, I shouldn't see it on the dipstick anymore. And it is still at approximately the same level.
From this point of view, it is perhaps good news.

Someone else in this forum had a problem with oil disappearing and he found out that the oil leaked into a void in the engine
I read it. I also did the test with blank paper by exhaust, but no oil drops. Also exhaust is inside dry. I am curious what will be in next month, because on 29.4. I have term in service.

Make sure your service is done on a Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday morning and it's done before the lunch break. If you know what I mean.
