LED HEADLIGHTS

Fred,
How do KNOW they "work very well"?
Do you know how far from your front wheel you can see well enough to detect and identify a hazard in your path in the dark of night? How long would it take for you to decide your best response, and then come to an emergency stop or swerve to avoid?
These criteria are what humans do and are critical to your survival, especially on a motor.
I'm now off my soap box and shall cease badgering you. If interested, let me know in AR.

I appreciate your concern kind sir ! Compared to the stock lights, my E-code buckets and $90 Piaa bulbs are probably five times better. I can't believe JW'S at $1100 are going to be eleven times better than that. Like I mentioned before, I've ridden with Harley's at night with daymakers and didn't see a significant improvement over what I have. If I do find myself out at night I ride slow. You could have air craft landing lights and it's not going to help you when a deer shoots out of the brush ten feet in front of you ( I know that from first hand experience ). Now I'm tempted to buy another set of Piaa's just to see how they compare on your lux meter. But I'm not sure that tells the whole story, unless it is tuned to the exact range in the light spectrum that the human eye sees.

Fred i fitted a set of knockoffs 6 years an their still going strong . Wired in a couple of relays and ran the lights direct from battery wi 20 amp fuse . there is huge difference .you can really see where your goin .I still do a bit of long distance night time ridin and would recommend them . If they blow its easy an cheap e bay replacment. Probably done bout 20k miles since fitting. Go for it.

I already have relays. I may give that a try. Something like this ?

Mine measures incident light in either lux or candle power. The human eyes can identify objects (not just detect) in order to decide and respind around 3.2 lux. Of course there are msnt other factors in play that must be considered. Some important ones are, ambient light, contrast, motion, reflectivity, and light beam pattern. The best measurements are done on a flat level surface with a grid.
I do NOT plan to do all this work for free.
I'll likely just measure at 1 meter or more if enough room is available and calculate the distance to 3.2 lux.

Could any of you fellows recommend a good set of led headlights for an early Rocket ? I've heard some of Chinese knock offs are pretty good. Any suggestions ?

I went with Eagle Lights. JW Speaker is just stupid money. Eagle lights were $224 for the pair, direct install, no modifications, plug and play.
