Thinking I shall do this as I trip a lot and some evenings and nights are usually involved.
So, just to make sure I understand this headlight thing ;
The JW Speaker and the Day Maker are the same thing???
The Speakers need work to fit into the can and the Day Makers fit right in with no mod needed.
Both are about the same cost?
Thanks,

OK

The 5&3/4" DAYMAKER are made by J.W.Speaker but the new DOT/ECE Daymaker is ONLY available from Harley. J.W Speaker still make the 8630 - but it's DIFFERENT to the new Daymaker. The OLD 5&3/4" Daymaker was identical to a 8630.

The Speakers require work - not a lot but some. The new Daymaker now seems to drop straight in. My guess is that Harley were suffering getting folk to cough up for a different shell for the old Daymaker. The Speaker has a MAIN or DIP system. The new Daymaker is a DIP or DIP&MAIN-TOGETHER setup.

The REFLECTOR 7" Daymaker (T owners) looks more like something from Truck-Lite. And Trucklite is the way I'd go with 7". Again buying from Harley gets you ECE and DOT coverage. Trucklite only market under their own name witt DOT. The projector looking 7" lamps are made by J.W.Speaker.

And one of the greatest ' storytellers' in the southern hemisphere .. giant ants, kangaroos in Spencer St  .... and the best of them all " I am a law abiding model citizen"

OK OK, TC!
The killer animal inhabitants of OZ are only surpassed by the Aussie BULL $HIT!

Gray Beard,
Sorry to be a pest; but, I looked up the Harley Daymakerand find many different part numbers.
What is the best one for my R3R?

I may have answered my own question. One seems to be in black (67700145) and one is in chrome (67700144). I hope this is the only difference.
I also just found this:

That's them.

I'm always a little worried when marketing folk say BRIGHTER. On DIP I seriously doubt it. Why? - because they are ECE rated and there are maximum values permitted under law - exceed you don't get the rating.

Main beam may well be brighter as it is additional to dip. The question is - how often do you ride main(High) beam? - Me? - not very often.

If you ride on LOW beam a lot - you may be better off with adding GOOD fog lamps. By good I mean not the Triumph ones.

I have been looking at the JW Speaker 6150 for a while to replace the Triumph Fogs - but seen that OSRAM have a kit out - with 100% proper DRL, LED FOG and a control box so that they function as cornering lights too. Expensive - I'm trying to "acquire" a set for testing. FULLY ECE/DOT rated.

Main beam add on - my attention has been drawn to the Rigid Industries SR-Hybrid-Combo. Jim in Maine is talking to them about Aircraft use (Rockets are a type of Aircraft) - NOT DOT approved. I did a test and made my own clumsy Hybrid at the weekend - my interested is seriously piqued. btw if you're interested in RIGID - download the catalogue and look at the the first 6 pages or so. Good info there.

About two years ago I needed a new helmet while on a trip. The only dealer I could find was a Harley dealer. They had a great helmet, which I bought, and which has a big Harley logo on it.
Who gives a F***. I have no problem wearing my Boss Hoss vest on R3 nor my Harley helmet on my Boss.
The fact that the lights have Harley on them shouldn't mean more than if they had GE or Phillips on them.
The best item is the best item and if your ego is more important than reality.....stay with bad lighting.
I'll never understand! I might even be happy to say to a fellow biker, "Yep,..I put those *****in' Harley LED lights on her"..ain't they the best!?

Dont want to piss on anyones parade but those harley lights are all JWSpeaker lights. If i had known harley was going to start fitting them to their bikes then release them for $100 cheaper with their logo on it I would have waited.

Without question harley have some of the best aftermarket bits around. they now offer gerbing heated clothing for 30% less than gerbing. i know where my money would go.

I agree but I am more than happy with my JW Speakers with the extenion rims as it adds a bit more individualistic appearance

Great info, Amigo!
I found Rigid Industries; but. could not find a "SR-Hybrid Combo" or a catalog. I did find a 6 inch spot array of 6 lights that looks interesting. At 24 watts, I wonderif it would be too much with the two Daymakers on my Rocket. What sayest you?

I have these in LED on another bike (Kaw V2K) and they seem to work pretty well; however the stock H7/H4 sux. I like the fork location mount to the brake caliper.

I also agree, HansO.
I see a youtube that purports the "new" Daymakers are brighter than the previous Speakers as well.
What an interesting, informative and important discussion!
