Is my Rocket III Touring too heavy for me?

I am 58 years old six foot at 245 pounds. Some fat and some not. Kind of a tough cookie. The day I bought the Rocket X down in Texas I spent four hours riding it around the shop I purchased it at. In retrospect when I bought the Harley fatboy we jumped right on out on the highway and headed home. The Rocket when sat on for the first time earns your respect, if it fails to then your a fool. Even after riding the bike home from Dallas (a bit over 250 miles) I still had a lot of respect and awe for the bike. Took my time and got to know the bike real well before any hot rodding. The biggest plus was going down to the local walmart after hours and practicing turns and braking in the parking lot. The local police department got so use to seeing me in the parking lot that they would just drive by and wave. Even had my wife take some small cones down so I could practice moving the bike around in different conditions and speed. Yes even in the rain which has saved my ass more than once in real life situations. Do i regret buying such a large bike? Nope it is by far the best bike I have ever owned. Do I respect it ? Yes even after 24,000 miles since Oct 20 2015.

There is a saying in agricultural America.

Pick a calf up every day as it grows and you will be able to pick it up when it becomes a 2000 pound bull.

875 pound motorcycles might as well be 2000 pound bulls if the surface is slick and the shiny side is below the rubber.

I want EasTexRIII's phone number so I can call him if I ever need to pick up an 875 pound bike with shiny side down hill on sand.

I believe you are telling the story of Milo who was a six-time wrestling champion at the Ancient Olympic Games in Greece. That was the tale of how he became so strong. Just providing a little historical and cultural education here on the forum...Lol

During a hail storm
Seriously, you and @sonny just described an analogy that reminded me of something.
University of Texas just recently hired a new coach for football, Tom Herman. During his introductory press conference a reporter asked him if he felt any pressure coming into a job in one of the highest profile situations in all of sports. His answer was: pressure? Pressure is that uneasy feeling you feel when you come into a situation "unprepared". I've been preparing for this my entire life. So no, I don't feel any pressure!
Preparation is what Sonny just described in his last post.
If you have any reservations about your Rocket experience, follow Sonny's formula.
Failure to prepare is preparing to fail. ;)
Cmon fellers - go ride the d@mn thing

And I am bothered frankly by some of the posts here -- most are positive -- some might come from a drill sergeant -- and that's not what we're about.

Please pay no attention to someone who says "you can't" or "you shouldn't".

Thank you Joe. I suspected that my intro post would probably invite some off remarks but I try not to take myself too seriously. Actually, I am surprised that so many people have come forward and relayed their stories of dropping their R3s. Only one person truly came across as a real arse. If 99% of R3Owners are as decent as you and Bedifferent, then I am in great company.

Most of the folks on here are good people. This is the first forum that I ever became a member of. Not really got banned from one but it was a Truimph forum. The folks on the other forum were dickheads. Being a good natured person we hit back and they did not like that very much. This forum has it faults but they are minor compared to the knowledge that can be acquired. Plus if you hang out long enough it can get to be a form entertaiment talking and sharing with some of the best.
