webBikeWorld has really good comprehensive reviews of helmets. I'll never buy new helmet again without first checking the reviews and stats found there.

I use the first generation Bell Star, but it is loud, as someone stated earlier. Glad to hear the next gen is a big improvement.

Selling a used motorcycle helmet is almost as easy as selling a used mattress at a yard sale. Sorry.

So since you don't have any more to lose, and you're familiar with Dynomat, why not give it a shot. It may just change the resonant frequency enough to save your investment? Then if it doesn't work, set them out front on the lawn with a "FOR SALE" sign.

Since we both have long heads like the creature in the "Alien" movie, we went with Arai as they have a special line of long helmets. Real happy with them except they really amplify the sound of the exhaust. My Rocket isn't terribly loud with the Maddogs on it, but it's annoyingly loud with the full face. Even the old Valkyrie I'm riding till my rockets fixed is loud in these helmets, and it has stock exhaust. Anyone else have this problem ?

Or find another Alien. I don't recommend the gestation method though!

I have tried different types of foam plugs and molded plugs, No-noise plugs (which were quite a bit better. I was never really happy with any of them until I got Flare Isolate Pro Mini Titanium plugs. They work better than any other plug that I have tried. They cost a small fortune but they do have a cheaper Aluminum model.

The Earphones are a wee bit expensive.

I bought a Schuberth E1 after using a Seer half helmet for years.
It was like night and day. The Schuberth E1 seemed almost silent in comparison. Worth a try if they'll let you test it out. Have a Windvest windshield and the small amount of buffeting I get when riding into a quartering wind is very manageable. Just a low rumble.

Fred, I too have a dolichocephalic head shape and I used to only wear Arai lids because they fit my coconut properly. When Bell came out with their new generation Star series, full face helmets I tried one on and found that it fit me just as well as the Arais did and I haven't looked back since. Some of the advantages of the Bell Stars:

Lighter
Much quieter
Flows a lot more air
Easier to change shields and,
Comes with a well made carry case

BTW, the Star saved my life when I cut a full grown doe in half with one of my VTX 1800s about 12 years ago and flew, like a human cannonball, about 250 feet before coming to rest.

What Scottie posted up earlier about wind noise is the gospel and the range of comments about ear plugs is spot on as well because comfort is an individualized or subjective thing. I've tried many different brands of disposables, including silicone and these are what works for me, partially because of their very high, 36 dB, noise attenuation rating: Highest NRR Earplugs for Noise Reduction | Howard Leight

They allow you to hear all the important stuff, but virtually eliminate wind noise. I never listen to music while riding because it does distract your hearing acuity fo0r the important stuff.

Remember, I ran Mad Dogs for years and they do cause a harmonic resonation inside any helmet because of the frequency of their note. Proper earplugs, including the Leights will eliminate that brain-numbing nuisance.
